82 Suzuki GS650 Engine turns over but gets no fire to start.

I recently bought a 1982 Suzuki GS650, the engine turns over and goes through the gears fine but I get no fire when trying to start it. the battery is fine. I think it might be the coils, any tips?

I also have a 81 gs650g and have the same problem. I picked up a Dyna S model ds3-2 to install but have not got around to it yet. I got the information from the GS resources page but there is one issue with fitting the backing plate around the oil sending unit but seems to be an easy fix with a dremel tool and then re-locating the wiring holding fast on the Dyna backing plate just a little out of the way. Basically using the original as a template. Good luck

I have a 1982 Yamaha maxim 550. It's been running great but yesterday I noticed the kick stand didn't shut off the engine when the bike was still in gear. The neutral light turns on faint and

I would suspect two things ... thing one ... are you sure the '82 has a safety interlock switch? Thing two ... if it does have a switch, check it for proper operation.

Yes i have a 1982 suzuki gs650 i am fixing up . i put the key in the ignition and it wont turn so i was wondering how i can start it to see if it is worth fixing

Hi , start by putting the byke on its central stand or other device, in order to get rear wheel on the air
engage on 4th or 5th gear and try turn the engine by turning the wheel (better without sparkplugs)
if it turns ok without noticeble strange noises, then put the sparkplug back and try ( ask a friend for help) to push it dow the road in 2nd gear
at this point i'm assuming that everything else has been checked (petrol, spark oil level, etc)
good luck,

I have loose rubber tubes hanging from the bike, any Ideas to what there for or where they should go? I just bought a 82 suzuki gs650.

One will be for the battery venting (connects to the vent connection on the battery), another will be a vent tube for the fuel tank. Any others may be vent tubes for the crankcase.

Clutch slipping in second gear only

Wave washer on the face of the clutch basket may have lost its tension, clutch friction plates may be wearing thin as she's an old girl. Some automotive (car) oils not specifically designed for wet clutches when used in a bike will cause the clutch to slip as they are designed to leave a deposit on friction areas. This will require a thorough flush and a few oil changes in quick succession.
Check the return function of the clutch release arm on the crankcase, they can bunch up the rubber shroud and not return fully. Good luck and Cheers.

82 GS650, slipping in second gear only. this is a smooth action that is happening no hard banging. it was junping out of all the gears before I replaced the cam shifter and it was making some major noise....

Ok got it, you have a worn or bent shift fork and worn gear cogs transmission work needed to fix this problem. If you decide to have it repaired make sure to inspect all the gears and forks.
Good luck.

1982 suzuki gs650 runs, but not over 300rpm

better check for the ignition coil for proper sparking or igniting of current in the comprssion chamber, check the ignition coil spark plug wire, check the spark plug, check for proper fuel supply in the flow system to Carbs, check for Ignition timing of the bike, or still you cant solve or still worried then dont worry better take the bike to nearest aurhorised Suzuki service centre for better assistance on this problem surely the problem will be solved.
