They are not cable driven. They are electric. Check your fuses, more than likely you have blown a fuse. Do not check them just by looking at them. You need to use either a test light or a multimeter to test them. Fuses can look fine and still have an open circuit. If you trust your eyes, you can be wasting a lot of time.

if its a cable operated speedo then the cable is probably busted it would be a cable coming out of the back of the speedo and going to the front hub assembly.

Speedometer on my 2002 suzuki volusia quit working. digital clock and numerals still show.

Sound a lot like a broken speedometer cable, a fairly common problem.

Take the cable housing off the wheel, and at its other end, and check to see if either end has broken off. Many speedo cables have the ends squished into a square shape, and the shoulders of that squareness are what drives the cable at the wheel end, and drives the speedo mechanism at the other end. Check to see if that squareness has been rubbed round, rather than square.

If this has happened, replacing the cable will fix you up, but the problem will happen again, soon. If it is broken or worn, either the cable is not turning easily in the housing, or the speedo mechanism is too stiff to turn.

If the speedo end is broken, the mechanism is the problem. If the wheel end is broken it can be either cause.

I have a 2003 suzuki volusia 800 cc and my speedometer does not work, to include the mileage meter

You will need to replace the speedometer sensor which is located on the right side of the front tire hub. It costs about $130.00. To do it yourself, you'll need to hoist the bike so the front tire is off the ground. Remove the front tire. The sensor is that black doughnut looking thing with a wire attached. Repace that and you should be good to go.

Speedometer not working

Alot of the time is vibrates and unscrews from the back of the speedometer. If it is screwed in on both sides, unscrew them both and turn the cable with your fingers to make sure it isn't broke.

If your unit is cable driven, get yourself an old piece of cable and insert it up into the speedo and then spin the cable while watching. If the needle jumps its pretty much assured the speedo head is ok and that your problem is in the cable or in the front wheel. Bill
