My cr80 honda will not start.It as been diagnosed with an ignition problem.However we do not know wether it is the stator plate, flywheel or pick up.Is there any way to tell? Please note the bike is a CR80 year unknown late 80s early 90s, not the crf100

Hi on the left hand side of the motor remove the cover over the flywheel/sprocket then remove the flywheel you will need the correct pullers to do this or it will be destroyed. When you havd this off remove the stator plate and fit new one. Regards Jim... PS Honda Forever??

Yes , I tried taking it loose on 79 honda. We ended up taking it tomotorcycle shop and for 20 bucks a mechanicue removed itwithout having to unload The bike.

Wow,- how do you know, I never heard of that.
Maybe if one of magnets is bit off. Do you have 80V AC from stator wires. (Three wires coming from left case cover). Measure between two with engine on must give you ca 80V. This way you know Stator is o.k.

Check your timing. If the timing is off or jumps around you may have a broken stator plate or just loose cd pick up. Check your timing per the maintenace manual. If it is off try to adjust but if it is jumping around you will have to pull the flywheel and check the stator and CD trigger for security.

My problem started like this,I found No spark so changed coil,cdi,voltage reg,eventualy found stator at fault,check pick up strip on flywheel and pick up pin on black pick up coil,this is fixed to stator and sends spark signal to cdi,mine were both rusty/dirty,I fitted a new stator,but now have light problems..stator seems to be to strong.

It sounds to me that you have done most all of what is needed. Just take some fine sandpaper to the magnets in the flywheel. After sanding, wipe it clean, then spray it with carb cleaner to remove any possible residue. Now give the magnets a spray coating of clear polyurethane coating. The flywheel will never rust again. Replace the source coil and install a new spark plug. A plug that is carboned up can lessen spark voltage. The last item is the battery. A weak one can rob power. Please rate my answer. Thanks.

cuts off or breaks up?? if it breaks up it could be a couple of things bad reeds or electrical like stator or cdi bog ign coil check those

You have CDI ignition. The ignition timing can not be changed.
