Make sure battery has a full charge and battery connections all good. Two voltage circuits at the starter motor, one comes from the battery, hot all the time. The other goes hot with key in the start position and is wired through clutch switch, I haven't looked up info on your clutch switch. The starter motor is grounded through engine block. Any testing at starter motor, make sure tranny is out of gear and parking brake is set.
You can check the starter itself, take it off, lay it on the ground, hook up jumper cables properly from battery to starter motor, at the least, it should kick out the drive gear and spin.
Sounds like starter motor given your slow to no turnover, I assume your new battery has full charge, if not, check with meter, it may be a defective battery, or another issue with connections, did you clean cable connections when you put in new battery? I assume your engine was running properly before battery change and is not partially seized due to overheating or low oil.
the alternator lamp will not go out until the engine runs..
the alt converts engine horse power to electric power,
no engine, no alt.
so that means the engine will not start, or better it wont crank
subzero C or Subzero F.,, -10F or -10C, vastly different temps.
???????
no crank, then jumper cable crank it with donor car running.
crank now,?
yes , then battery is bad,weak or just discharged.
no, then starter bad, or key line bad.
hot wire starter solenoid. cranks now, is bad key line
if not, bad starter.
did you wiggle the shifter at crank.
did you wiggle key. extra.
did you try crankiing in neutral using fresh start contacts.>... yah.
You need to go though the basics. Is it cranking Yes/No If its an auto is the park switch working to crank up? Is they a spark at a plug lead. Don't hold it with your hands, the shock can kill. Put a new plug in a lead, lay it on a metal part of the engine, have someone crank up while you watch. Should be a good blue spark. If not, you will have to get expert tech help. Why did you change the battery and starter? Don't change parts on a whim without knowing the problem. When was it last serviced? How long has it gone without full engine service? Should be 12000 max.
To clarify - the engine cranks then starts. If it won't crank in any gear, I would check the neutral safety switch first. You can also jumper the starter solenoid to make sure the starter will crank the engine manually without the circuit from the key switch.
You have to check the starter motor,prolly the brushes are gone . Also check the connections from battery to the solenoid and from the solenoid to the starter.
Initially, determine if there is a clicking sound when the START button is pressed. The click is significant.
If there is, this indicates that the starting relay is engaging but for some reason,
the starter motor is not cranking. This could either indicate a faulty
starter relay (particularly the contacts) or a faulty starter motor (specifically, the carbon brushes). To determine which:
with the side covers off, expose the starter relay particularly the 2 large terminals;
have somebody start the bike normally using the key and button start switch;
determine if indeed the clicking is coming from the starter relay;
while the start button is still pressed, jump the 2 big terminals;
if the engine cranks, then the internal contacts of the starter relay are corroded or burned;
if the engine will not crank, then the starter motor is faulty.
If there is no click, you may want to check the alarm/security/immobilizer if your bike is so equipped. others to check would be side stand switch, clutch switch and neutral light indicator.
