This site has a lot of relevent info and many links...I own same model and will be doing similar in the near future. Although I shall be looking at ebay or wreckers for a good s/hand one. Cheers.

the cam uses screw and locknut adjustable rockers on it. this allow the valves to be adjusted by just loosening the lock nut and adjusting the screw to the specified clearance at top dead center compression. hope this helps. thank you.
Carburetor issues will cause that. Could be anything in the carb from worn seals to worn needles or seats. Do you have a manual for the bike? Clymers or Haynes gives a fairly detailed procedure for a carb rebuild. There is a large free manual here, not sure which year it is. Do pay close attention to which carbs they mention, I believe the carb has changed over the years.
