I believe it should be a 2:1

However, your old speedo should have the ratio on it's underside.
Take it off and turn it over and see if it's indicated there.

1984 harley fxr clutch won't disengage

Hi Anonymous, and the usual suspects are:
1. Clutch controls improperly adjusted.
2. Lubricant level too high in primary chaincase.
3. Primary chain badly misaligned.
4. Clutch discs warpped or rust bound.
5. Insufficient clutch spring tension.

The new clutch lever probably isnt operating the switch.Refit the old lever and if it works then the new lever is incorrect for that model.

Clutch chattering while releasing clutch on 2008 road king

This is indeed an unusual problem for such a late model bike. The old Shovelheads used to do this from time to time but Harley quit building them in 1984. I've never had an Evo or Twin Cam bike come in with this problem.

However, what we used to do with the Shovelhead clutches is to take the clutch apart, clean the disc off with gasoline, and lightly sand the disc. The disc would get a glaze on them and gasoline was the only thing that would take it off. You had to be very careful due to the volatility of the gasoline.

Doing this may or may not be within your capabilities to repair. It would require that you remove the outer primary cover and disassemble the clutch assembly. You could try that if you wish but like I said earlier, this is a problem that I've never run across since the introduction of the Evo engine and the clutch assembly they employed after that. Make sure you check the tension on the primary chain and the oil level in the primary case.

Good Luck
Steve

Clutch problems

if the clutch is still working then it could be the clutch spring which has come off or snapped because it is very old. some cars have hydraulic clutch systems but i would think that yours is a spring. look in the footwell up the pedal and you may see a spring which has come off.
