Before you clean the carb, look closely to make sure there are no air leaks which could short-circuit the flow of air past the jets. Loose bolts or nuts holding on the carb could be one source of severe air leaks. While cleaning the carb, examine the float adjustment carefully to make sure enough fuel is being held in the bowl. You should be able to tell this when you first take off the bowl from the carb.

My divvy 900 won't rev more than 3000 revs why?

It sounds very much like your main jets are blocked. Did you soak them in carb cleaner overnight and run them through with some very fine wire? That will usually sort matters. The only other thing that would cause this is if your Cdi or coils were starting to die, but since it ran better before you cleaned the carbs I'd guess jets are your problem..

Hi, Kevin and the usual suspects are:
1. Severely drained or faulty battery.
2. Faulty regulator/rectifier or high output coil.
3. Faulty power valve, solenoid or installation.
4. Clogged air filter or exhaust.
5. Cracked or incorrect float level.
6. Float needle is not seating.
7. Faulty reed valve.

Aprili RS125 2003. It starts, gets to 7000 revs then reduces. As I rev it stays at 2 - 3000 revs. If I put it in gear it wont drive but with the clutch held I can keep it at 2 - 3000, if I try to take off...

Hi, Stphn_dcksn if your bike has been idle for months or years and does not want to start you will have to deal with a few remedies:
1. Drain and flush fuel tank, google " how to clean a motorcycle gas tank" find a couple forums to view the different options available.
2. Remove your air cleaner and clean and re-oil per Mfg. specifications.
3. Remove the carburetor, disassemble and decontaminate with a carb dip or if you have EFI remove injectors and clean with carb spray and compressed air
4. Remove fuel valve and filter disassemble and clean as necessary, remove fuel lines and replace with new ones.
5. Replace spark plug with a new one and check for spark.

Rev counter moves from 0 to 3000 revs or 7000 even when engine not running

Hi, Tom it's a fault code that's being generated for this scenario you will need your service/owners manual if you can't find the first and best tool you ever bought for your Yamaha, despair not, for a mere $0 you can download another one. My 96 1300 royal star runs good at idel and half therodel but dies down at full throdle

I thought i had a problem with my carbs. it started cuttingout when i romped on the throutle, but when i took it to a cycle specialist, they said the royal star had a Rev Limiter in it. it intentialy starts cutting out and back firing when I try to rev it too high. I\´m looking at getting the DYNA 3000 to customize the limiter. $270 bucks
Yamaha installed the limiter to lengthen the life of the bike, so this may be a long term bad idea.
I\´ll see.

2001 r1 not been run for 14 months started it up not responding like it should.emptied tank n put fresh petrol in seems to respond better higher up the revs but wont tick over getting a bit ov back fire.

Try cleaning out your carb, Petrol starts to form into a jelly after 3 to 4 weeks if you dont turn the engine over. Your carb is situated under your petrol tank. Hope this helps

The rev counter goes from 0 to 7000 revs then back to 0

that is the indication of the exup valve malfunctioning. it tosses the code of 7000 rpm for a few seconds on start up to let you have an indication that there is a problem.

Power Loss at around 3000 rpm

are the carbs balanced correctly and are you sure that all of the jets are clean. if not try it, it might work. sluggish throttle response is normally to do with the carbs.
