Question about 1980 Yamaha XS 400

Leaking oil through the intake.. Also want to rebuild bike with custom parts.. No idea where to look for after market bike parts.. Any ideas??

Hi Anonymous, no your breather system just got a little over taxed because of the heavy load and the mountains, you will be fine have nice day.

Small plug on primary cover leaking oil 09 dyna super glide

Not likely too much oil cause of the leak but too much would cause clutch release/dragging problems.

Describe this plug more. Is it a rubber plug that maybe filled a mid shifter shaft hole that is not being used as the bike has forward controls??? I would be surprised to find a 2009 DYNA that ever was fitted for mid controls but stranger things have happened that me not being aware of something. ANYWAY describe the situation more. What do you call the front face of the primary. To me that would be the front of the cover towards the front of the bike but I am thinking you are referring to the cover as you look at it from the side???? The mechanic may have no idea why it is leaking now but he or she should have and idea why it is leaking.

How do i take my exhaust off

I have no idea why you suggest changing the exhaust
components,if your thinking that has anything to do with
blue smoke

Blue Smoke,if continuous when you drive,is oil burning
& not something you can resolve short of a rebuild,unless
an intake gasket happens to be leaking oil in somehow

Have a GA7ff Atlascopco Screw Compressor. Discharge of oil from Intake & went out on heat overload.

Sounds like a bad oil seal. If the oil level is too low, it will overheat.

About after a min of the bike running gas starts flowing into the air box, its alos getting into th oil

First check to see if the oil level in your crankcase is too high. If you have a vacuum petcock malfunction (hole in the diaphragm) or if the fuel petcock is left in the prime position and a float needle sticks, then you get you get gas running into the cylinders, past the rings, and into the oil.
When you start your motorcycle the oil/gas mixture has no place to go, the crankcase is too full, and the mixture exits through the crankcase breather into the air box where it will ruin a paper air filter. Always turn your fuel petcocks off when not driving. If the petcock diaphragms are bad rebuild the petcock with K&L rebuild kits or replace the fuel petcocks with new ones. If the float needles in the carburetors are bad or sticking, take the carburetors apart, clean them, and replace any worn or damaged parts You will have to change your gasoline saturated oil for it will no longer properly lubricate your motor.
Just a note: in 1983 brand new Honda's would fill there engines in gas. All the components were clean and new. This can happen to any machine in any condition at any time. When not riding always turn off the fuel vales never leave them in the prime position.

I have a oil leak and I think its coming from the back of the manifold. I change the valve cover gaskets but its still leaking what can it be.

If this is a 5.0L engine the Oil leak is probably this intake gaskets,I would reccomd you replace the PCV filter and gromet at the same time the gaskets are replace and it would be a good idea to replace the PCV valve also.It would be a smart idea to have a professional to replace the Intake Gaskets!!!!!!!

Hi there. To upgrade your old rear shock is a good idea, however very expensive. Makers like Koni, and Ohlins, will have a rear shock to fit your bike, but unless your willing to part with about $1000, then considermy second solution. Have your old rear shock re built, or re furbished, by a qualified suspension mechanic, for a fraction of the cost. It is also possible to customise, and taylor your old shocky to suit you. Example,shorten the spring?, add a spacer to stiffen it up a bit, less oil, or more oil?
I would look into a rebuild first, unless, like i say, you are prepared to spend about $1000 plus.
Anything you choose, will definately enhance your bike.
