SOURCE: Leaking crankshaft seal

The manual on the 750 says put new seals on the crank as you install it, and I believe they have a locating lip on the seal that fits in a groove in the cases. which means a split.

I have trimmed the lip off the seal, and installed them with loctite master gasket, the old seal is hard to remove due to the lip

Hi, Guy you do not have to split the cases for this scenario you need a service/owners manual if you can not find the first and best tool you ever bought for your Harley despair not, for a mere $10 you can download another one. Quad wont start got spark got fuel and got compression

If it's a 2 stroke you have a crank seal out. It can have compression but won't have vacuum, and it won't run. Sometimes the seal can be replaced on the magneto side without splitting the cases, but I'd rebuild the entire motor and replace the crank bearings along with the seals. Good luck!

How do you change the crank

Pull the engine out of the frame. Remove the top end. Remove left and right side case covers. Remove the clutch, crank drive gear, shift shaft assembly, kick start assembly, water pump, rotor, stator base assembly, sprocket and miscellaneous other small items. Remove all case screws then split the case halves using a case splitter tool. Be sure to install new crank bearings and seals. You can see an exploded diagram of the engine at the following website. Please rate my answer, thanks.

How too replace connecting rod on a ttr 125l. I have a 2001 ttr 125 with a seized conn big bearing. and I would like to know the proper way of splitting the crank too replace it

The top end comes off then the left and right side covers, flywheel, clutch and shift shaft. Now a case splitter is used to split the center case halves. To replace the bearing you will need a hydraulic press to disassemble and reassemble the crank halves. If the bearing is seized you should replace the bearing, crank pin and the connecting rod. The crank must be realigned using twin dial gages. Personally, I suggest a new crank assembly be purchased from www.babbittsonline.com ( $241 ). I would replace the crank end bearings at the same time and also the sprocket shaft outer bearing and seal. Please rate my answer.

I need to know how to dis/reassemble a 1974 DT 360?

A service manual ( if you can find one ) is what you need. The second thing you need is repair parts. They are pretty hard to find. Babbitt's, a well known distributor, only has parts left in stock for the top end. Go to their website, www.babbittsonline.com/parts/viewbybrand/parts.aspx
and you can see what is left. There's also a diagram of the crankcase center halves. If you can't get the repair parts, spending hours doing an engine teardown is fruitless.

The teardown will require a flywheel puller, a case splitter, an impact driver, and a torque wrench (somewhat optional). Disassemble the top end then remove the left and right side case covers. Remove the flywheel and related electrics, the clutch, crankshaft drive gear, oil pump, kick starter, shift shaft assembly, shift drum end cap and index pins. Now remove the screws on the center case and you can then split the case. This gives you access to replace shift forks, gears, and bearings. Note that crank seals can be replaced without splitting the case.

I am not trying to be a smart *** here, but re-assembly is just the reverse of dis-assembly. This is why a manual would help. Another potential source for parts is to Google motorcycle salvage yamaha .
The normal things you would need to replace inside the center case would be bent shift forks (if shifting is the problem), busted gears, crank bearings and seals, and sprocket shaft bearing and seal. All else can be replaced by removing just the side covers.

How to remove a crank on yz 125 after engine casing is split?

When you split the case (depending on how you split it) the crank will stay in the left case half or the right case half. Whichever doesn't matter. Just take a rubber mallet and knock it out of the half it is in. Now would be a good time to replace the outer bearing and seal behind the front sprocket. Also replace the shift shaft seal.

By the way, this may be helpful >
Go to the site below where you can see a parts diagram for your specific bike. You will select the actual brand, year, model, etc., once you go to the site. Part numbers and prices are also shown. You can order parts from this site. In the event no price is shown on a particular part and/or the notation "Not Available" is in the description, the part is not in stock. www.babbittsonline.com/pages/parts/viewbybrandand/parts.aspx

To be honest if this was me I personally would replace bearings and seals and give whole engine good check over.May save some hassle later depending on your circumstances.

push in the button on the left headrest post and use a small piece of coathanger wire and do the same to the other headrest post. There is a small hole in the side of the plastic. Now pull up on headrest whilst doing this and it should come out.

OIL GOIN FROM GEARBOX OUT MUFFLER

Thats not likely. What you are seeing is excess oil from you gas and oil mixture. Not sure if your still running the oil injection pump but it sounds like you have been running a very rich oil/fuel mixture.
The gearbox oil is not accessible through the crankcase. They a totally separate sealed sections of the motor. If by chance you are losing gearbox oil your bike will billow a very white disgusting smelly cloud of smoke. If that is what is happening you may have a right side crank seal blown which will allow the oil to be sucked from the gearbox into the crankcase. Hopefully this is not the problem because with your model I'm 85% certain you will have to split the cases to replace the main seal on the right side engine center case. If thats the case I'd highly recommend you replace both right and left main seals as well as main bearings.
You will need some special tools to do this job. I can tell you what you need to do the job and if you like to DIY I can tell you how to do it and what to look out for.
Best of luck.
