Have them test the battery and double check the connections on the alternator.
Possible the battery suffered some damage from the bad alternator.

Most likely you have something draining the battery. Quick way to tell, disconnect the ground (negative) cable to the battery, let it sit for a few hours, then reconnect it and try to start it. If it starts OK, you know the battery is holding a charge, but something is draining it.
To drain it in just a few hours requires a serious draw, like headlights or the cooling fan. It is possible that your cooling fan (behind the radiator) is staying on all the time. Often they are controlled by a thermostat, and will run for a few minutes after you shut off the engine, but it should shut off within about five minutes. If it is still running after ten or more minutes, you have a bad fan thermostat or a bad fan relay. If that is not the problem, you will have to get someone with an ammeter to measure the current draw, and start pulling fuses until you find the culprit.

HAVING TROUBLE STARTING

Is the battery over four years old?
No one rebuilds starters, they get a rebuilt from the auto parts store.

Who is they and what are the issues?

I assume the engine turns over, now youv'e had the battery and starter looked at?
It either starts or it doesn't.
Long cranking times before starting, could be a clogged fuel filter or bad fuel pump, but the shop you go to, would know that!!

Honda sl 230 trouble getting it to start

what kind of problems?
probably needs the battery charged, also will probably need carbs cleaned out with carb cleaner, i would drain all old fuel out of the tank as well and replace with new fuel with a dash of redex in the tank to help clean carbs as fuel leaves a gummy varnish after sitting for a while.

Maxima does not start easily after sitting in hot sun for a while

Hot and cold? Hmmmmmmmm, interesting,You may want to to have the air temperature sensor replaced. Its a small sensor on the intake duct coming of the air cleaner. You can change it yourself if needed. Good Luck
