Question about 2005 KTM SX 525 Racing

I have a 2005 KTM 525 SX that burns alot of oil, and makes blue smoke, but still has lots of compression and power, I'm just wondering if it would be piston rings or Valve problems?

Could be the valve guides, or it could be the rings are worn, or not aligned properly.

What was the actual compression reading?

May sound strange but what does the smoke sell like?
Also have you noticed any issues with low radiator fluid?
If it has a sweet odor it could be from cooling fluid getting into the cylinder.
About the only way your going to know for sure without an inspection of the cylinder and head is to keep a close eye on the levels of both the engine oil and the coolant. This also uses twin eaton pumps for pressure lubrication so that could also be a factor. A 525 has a lot of power to go around so even a 20% decrease would be difficult to notice unless your on it everyday. I can tell you that if you think there is an issue with blow-by or a blow head gasket it needs to be taken care of before there is a critical component failure.
Good luck.

2002 ktm 250 dirtbikes oil leak between cylinder and head by exhuast port

Hi, Anonymous to find the source of your oil leak, start at the point where you see oil and trace its path going up and forward, blowing baby powder from the palm of your hand will help in those difficult to see areas if there is too much oil present then buy a spray can of engine degreaser apply it to the affected area then rinse off with a pressure wand or garden hose, use compressed air to blow off excess water or just let it drip dry, take your bike for a 15 minute ride and check for the leak.

My ktm 450 exc 2005 burns oil and makes blue smoke and I have got oil in airbox but i dont know why it is burning oil. What could it be. Please help

this is usually because of a few things,,,check,,,, and maybe change your plug,,,check gap,,,,adjust your carb,... it sounds like it is way to rich,,,,,lean it out a little,,,,,,and the worse problem,,,,,your rings on the piston may be getting worn,,,,and allowing oil to seep by,,,thus,,going into your airbox,,,,,,and combustion chamber,,,,, then blue smoke,,,,, take a compression check if all else fails,,,,,,, this will tell you if your rings are bad,,,,,, JOEL

My ktm uses sparkplugs excessively +_ every 15 hrs

Check the voltages coming from the coil . Make sure they are correct. Timing may be off. It will cause the plugs to superheat and burn up also improper detination. Might be hard to start. Run hot and feel torquey with out alot of top end power . Have hessitation when gas is first applied . Also check the exuast temp it could be you added a aftermarket pipe ,dented or clogged it causing it to have more compression. to become trapped + increasing the temp. Make sure you use the recomended gap over gaping will cause them to heat up and burn up fast.Check your compression on the cylinder you could have a oil leak in the cylinder causing the oil residue to burn and foul up the plugs. This usaully comes with smoke out of the pipe. The cam could be worn causing the valves to not open all the way. There are alot of possiblitys start with the easiest suggestion before you work into your motor taking apart uneeded precise small motor parts. Plugs, wires, timing, compression check, temp check then if needs be tear it down.

My 2006 ktm 250 sx-f smokes blue when i pull away

Is this a 4 or 2-stroke?
4-stroke = bad valve seals of piston rings
2-stroke = oil/gas ratio too 'oily' OR air filter clogged.

Ktm 525 sx

A LOT!

KTM does not provide a spec for this. If you think you are low on compression, you will need to perform a leak down test on the motor to determine if work is needed.
