Question about 2006 Gas Gas EC 200

Open Question

Carb jets and settings, Gas Gas EC200, 2006. This is the 4th ec200 I have owned and find that they are very fussy about carb settings. This one just doesn't want to run well at all. It produces reasonable power but does feel weak. Bottom end is very soft, mid range ok and top end flattens off too quickly. It just feels like its choking, not breathing cleanly. Pilot 45 Main 178 Slide #5 Needle (can't read it) Needle clip 2nd from top Air screw 2 1/2 turns out Altitude 250m Temp 0 to 30 (average say 15) I'm in the UK I have Boysen reeds and a Power Valve expansion cover, apart from that its standard.

ive checked all the wiring and nothing is shorting out. is this a common problem? and could it be the lead to the spark plug somehow shorting through a radiator hose that it is touching?I want to keep an eye on this thread.... Same thing happened on my 2002 XC300 a few years ago. I never found any specific cause and the problem seems to have gone away. Funny the two specific times it happened I happened to be almost directly underneath High Voltage power transmission lines. Check your kill switch for shorts. If it is only a single wire unit. That might be the path to your shocking adventures. I have sinced changed my XC into an EC with a new wiring harness and switch gear. So that may be why my problem is gone.,,,

SOURCE: EC200 ignition

I understand this to be the 2k-2 ignition. Has the ec200 ever come with the 2k-3 ignition? If it has was the power that much smoother? I rode it and find it acceptable in the dry but being an Oregonian dry is a short-term condition, and rain is the norm. Terrain is hard clay that gets slick, with a lot of exposed roots and rocks. Will the bike be too hard to ride with this ignition? What about flywheel weights for the 2k-2, are the worthwhile? I currently ride a GG280 trialer and really enjoy the hookup, but 40 yr. old knees would like a seat. BTW, dealer says NO other ignition is available; I trust him completely, but not sure if he has all the info. as the parts manual online ONLY shows the 2k-3! not the 2k-2;,The ec200 does come with a 2k-3 ignition - the DE200 comes with the 2k-2 ignition. Only de200s are being imported into the u.s. at this time - which accounts for your dealer stating that they are not available with the 2k-3 ignition. You will want to go with a flywheel weight on the 2k-2 ignition for riding the terrain here in the wintertime (I live in Portland). One advantage of the lighter ignition is that you can configure the behaviour by swapping on and off different flywheel weights - for example, put on the flywheel weight for the riding the coast range and remove it to ride at China Hat in Bend. The flywheel effect on various configurations are given in the article in the tech articles of the website - it is entitled Flywheel effect. In addition to the flywheel weights listed - Steahly makes an 11 ounce flywheel weight for the gasgas. FYI - Glenn (GMP) is riding tight northeast woods and has used both the 2k-2 with flywheel and the EC ignition and currently prefers the 2k-2 + flywheel weight. You might want to ping Glenn for more detail.,,,

I am not sure as to where you wwant more power. I hear the JD needle makes the bike smoother. If you need more bottom end power a switch for 13:52 gearing will help LTR power valve cover a POWER NOW PLUS POWER NOW (carb divider plates), FMF Gnarly for bottom end, and a 2K2 igntion. As for your jetting it sounds like you could go down on the pilot one size and raise the clip up one position.,,,

Why is fuel not getting to spark plug on my yamaha raptor 50cc?

Could be the carb float has come off and not letting any gas into the carb bowl? Could be a plug in the gas line or the inlet in the gas tank which usually has a screen on it is filthy and needs to be cleaned. I\'d throw in a clear inline gas filter so you can actually see gas going through the line. They\'re cheap enough and the filer will help keep any crap from getting through to the carb. If your jets in the carb are plugged then you won\'t get getting any gas through the carb. So you need to see where the issue is. Is it a gas tank fuel plug, or a carb fuel plug. Make sure the gas is getting to the carb, then make sure the carb isn\'t plugged which will require you taking the carb off and looking through the gets which can be unscrewed. Jets are inside the carb and if you take the bowl off the carb you will usually find them. Take the get out, look through it into a ligh and if you can see light through the jet, it\'s ok. If you can\'t see light, then the jet is probably plugged. I use an old guitar string to slide through the jet hole to unplug it which works pretty well because they are small enough to do so. Clean the carb with carb cleaner and make sure it\'s good and clean before reassembling.

Briggs and straton 205412-0187e1 runs on full choke only rebuilt carburetor due to surging now it only runs on full choke

This engine came with 2 different carbs. Walbro and Nikki. The Nikki carb has a very fussy float plate! I fight them often! Usually there is a problem with the odd gasket that lifts the flat plastic plate and causes a very low fuel float level in the carb so the only way it stay running is to have the choke on. The main fuel jet on both carbs is up inside the threaded area of the bowl nut. When the main fuel jet clogs...and it only takes a speck of something you also get the symptom of having to use the choke to keep it running.

Main fuel jet is item 117 Nikki or Screwed into item 142 Walbro of the of the above link depending on which carb you have.
The plate I am talking about on the Nikki carb is item 135. The fussy gasket is 137A.

THE threaded area is where all the main fuel supply is drawn from the float bowl. All that must be free of obstructions. Until this is clear and orifices / jets are not obstructed; your going to be running on choke....

Thanks for choosing FixYa,

My hUSKI 395 is stalling when i pull the throttle wont rev

So, it idles ok but when you go for any extra throttle it dies?

Your carb may have a blocked main jet. You can removed your carb and after taking off the top and bottom diaphragms remove the main jet and blow through it with a splash of gas *(no carb cleaner! Some carbs are coated and carb cleaner can strip off this coating. Ruining the carb)
Use compressed air to help clear out the main jet passage and reassemble. Be sure you know how many turns your carb main jet needs to be set at before you remove it! Usually its 1-1/2 turns.

You should check online for a Husky website that may have additional guidance.

Good luck and be careful.

Engine not running

Your carb should have another jet. What you cleaned was the main jet in the center of the carb. There should be another jet called a pilot jet. Often it has a metal plug covering it up so the setting can not be changed at that point. Instead, they want you to change the setting with the pilot air screw. In each case, if you remove the screw, count the number of turns for removal and put the screw back the same number of turns.

The pilot jet controls the idle. It picks up gas from the float bowl then the gas gets metered by the jet and the air screw then passes through a circuit (drilled passageway), in the carb casing and comes out in the center of the carb close to the needle jet. You will need to get the jet and circuit cleaned.
