RS125 Non-Starter Checklist

  • If there is a nick in a tube or you have a leaky carburettor, your fuel could have escaped and evaporated over the course of a few hours (Lift your filler cap and check that there is fuel visible in your tank).
  • Someone could have played with it since you last rode the bike or you might have forgotten.
  • Put the bike in neutral and push along with your feet (or have someone push you).
  • When you have reached a good speed, put the bike into SECOND gear and hit the starter button.
  • If she starts up, pull the clutch in. The problem would appear to be in the starter motor.
  • The starter relay can be found behind the radiator and the connection means that it is possible for wires to fall out of the unit.
  • If you can bump start the bike and the wires are all connected, the problem could lie within the relay.
  • Turn the engine over and make sure that a good volume of air is coming out of the exhaust.
  • If possible, take it off the bike and look for blockages.
  • Make sure the choke is not flooding the engine.
  • Remove the seat and lift the tank up.
  • Either remove the spark plug or take a good plug that you are certain work, and connect it to the HT cap.
  • Touch the end of the plug to the frame via the insulated cap as you are in for a shock (haha) if you hold the plug itself.
  • Hit the starter button and look for a spark.
  • Check the original plug in the same way to make sure that it isn’t the source of the problem.
  • Make sure that the HT lead sits snuggle onto the plug.
  • Make sure that everything is plugged into the CDI as it should be.
  • This is located underneath the pillion seat. Look for bare or cut wires.

Car wont start after leaving key in ignition,ie went to start car, but phone rang, key in ignition, now wont start.this has happened my wife on several occasions. starts fine on a push

Check the fuse box for the starter relay, and pull out to check pins for corrosion / bad contact. The fact it start on a bump with the key on leads me to suspect the start / crank position of the electrics. Get a knowledgeable person to run through the crank circuit with a meter, also check the condition of earth straps and starter cables. Could be the ignition switch is faulty?

2007 ford edge wont start 52 k miles turns over but not starting. pulled up at store no problems went to leave and just wont start

Most of the time, this is caused by a safety switch called an Inertia switch. These are usually located behind one of the front floor kickpanels. The part has a reset button on it. You can go to the Web and search your specific model and year for the location and even photos of the inertia switch. It is suppose to disconnect the power from the fuel pump in the event your car gets bumped. Sometimes slamming a door will set it off.

"sometimes it starts after jiggleing the wiring loom"

That right there says you have a shorted/broken wire somewhere in the area that you "jiggle", so get an Ohmmeter and start testing in that area.

Wow, that is quite the electrical psychoanalysis :0) You have got some major electrical issues going on here. Well, the first things that I would suspect to even get a little idea as to what is going on, considering that you have multiple systems with electrical failure and some are not even related systems that should be in any way connected, I would check first the main computer. It sounds as if the main computer system could be on it's way out to complete failure. However, I am not even sure that the computer could cause so many system wide failures, therefore, I would also be very suspicious of your main wiring harness. Years ago, I had an old 1968 Datsun Roadster Convertible. They used to call them the Datson 311, it was the pre Z care before building the first 240Z. I had multiple systems intermittently failing and coming on at all times, hit the horn and the lights go out, press break and lose power to the stereo, etc. I did not have quite as crazy of a system problem that you have, but it was pretty bad when my lights went out driving over the mountain pass in the middle of the night when I hit a bump at 65mph. What I discovered is that I had an overheat problem (never did find the cause) that melted my main wiring harness together at the block where the harness enters from the engine compartment through the firewall. As a result, wires became cross wired and shorted out intermittently because all the coating had melted of the wires and every-time the car bumped even just a little, systems would change and wire into other systems. Not a very common problem, in fact very very rare, but you have very uncommon symptoms so who knows, maybe I have seen it happen twice in a lifetime.
Good luck, and if you figure it out, post your solution. This is one I would love to know the answer on since it is so unique.
Good luck
