Question about 2007 Yamaha V Star Classic

1 Answer

I think I over filled my gas tank and while at work, my bike sat in the sun all day and when it was time to go home, I fired up the bike with the choke on for 30 seconds, as usual, and gasoline was pouring out a hose under the gas tank coming from the carbs. I had to be towed home. Was this due to over filling the gas tank, or maybe a float stuck in the carbs. The bike is a 2007 Yamaha V-star 650 with 8,000 miles on it. Danny G.

Hi,
has the bike sat for any length of time? If so, the carbs need cleaned. Regardless of what you put in the tank, they'll need to be removed and cleaned. Since the bike is 14 years old, I'd guess they're due.

Also, check the petcock and tank for rust.

Small gas leak on 2005 Honda VTX1300R

I would suspect and look for any cracked or damaged rubber or other flexible type gas line/s from or to the tank, and where they connect to. That would be the 1st most probable location of leaks. Then the tank or carburetor/injectors.

Hi, Jltaylo7176 some bikes get "Sun Stroke" after running fine in the morning then shut off and parked in the sun for a couple of hours on a hot day. You get back on the bike hit the starter button and nothing happens or the engine turns over but will not fire. Then you put the bike in the shade for 20-30 minutes and it fires up no problem.
The primary reason for this phenomenon is faulty wire connections in the Starter and/or Ignition Circuit. You may have a wire connection/component that makes just enough contact when cool to start and run the bike, but when parked and exposed to direct sunlight heat causes expansion and creates an "OPEN" in the circuit not allowing the bike to start. You move the bike into the shade for a few minutes, the temperature goes down allowing the connection to contract and make better contact and suddenly "it's a miracle" the bike starts. I know what you're thinking that Gremlin could be anywhere, and you would be right in that assumption, you can take your bike to a dealer, spend tons of "DRACHMA" only to receive validated nervous emotions the next time you park in the sun, then 1 week later it doesn't start. Start by doing a ground check:
Check the battery terminals for damage or corrosion, check the battery cables at "BOTH" ends for loose, corroded, or broken connectors, "INSIDE" and outside the cable harness, perform connector wiggle test and check cables with an ohmmeter if necessary. Check all common grounds for the same suspects.
The secondary reason your bike may get "sun Stroke" is vapor lock although this is a rare scenario it does happen.

Honda CB250 will not start. It will turn over and there is fire on the plugs and when I look at the plugs after trying, they are "wet" with fuel. What am I missing?

Valve clearance or camshaft timing. If you have no clearance on the intake valves at top dead center, then you will have no compression = no start.

06 m50 sat for approx 6 months charged the battery won't start.

from your description, i would sugest you make sure fuel is getting to the injector unit, remove the fuel supply hose.if you have spark at the plugs and fuel getting to the injectors you have isolated the problem. i would also drain the old fuel when you take the hose off and fill the tank with high grade fuel. bikes dont like old gas.

Have you checked that you have power to the coil on cranking? You may also want to check wether you have a good strong spark at the spark plug.It could be an ignition module breaking down.If you have no power to the coil you may need to change the ignition relay. Its close to the battery.
