2008 Honda CB250 engine ticking when after it ran out of oil

Have a 2008 Honda CB250 with 6k miles. Noticed a ticking noise on the way to work the other day (22 miles). Checked the oil before I left that afternoon and there was none showing on the dip. Drove 1-2 miles to buy oil and added 2 quarts. Genty drove it home 22 miles. Still ticking pretty loudly. Going to do a full oil change this weekend (not going to ride it until then). Any idea what this noise is? If there is permanent damage done? It still runs and turns over with no problems. Did an oil change at 3k miles. Was planning on doing the next scheduled change this weekend. Why would a brand knew bike burn oil like that? I never noticed any leak spots.

Thanks. The warranty just ended 8/22......go figure. I never got a renewal notice in the mail, so they said I could purchase it now...for $500. Didn't tell them about my current problem though...wonder if they'll want to inspect the bike before giving me the warranty if I go that route...

New engines burn oil until the rings wear in, if you were riding it hard and never noticed oil gone , possible damage. i would top up oil and keep and eye. if its still under warranty i would suggest dealer look at it

Myth about changing oil every 3k miles

It wont hurt to change the oil every 3 thousand miles but it is a waste of money. Cars today burn a whole lot cleaner than yesteryears. Cars today can go 6k miles or more on a single oil change.

My 92 eldorado has a ticking sound when car drives the noise came out no where from the passager side is it my oil pump it gets lounder when gas is apply

What is the oil pressure when ticking starts? How many miles on engine? How often do you change oil? What oil do you use? What brand filters do you use? Is this a Northstar engine?

High mileage Northstars (and others) will have tappet noise as they wear. You might try adding a quart of Marvel Mystery oil at next oil change, but if low oil pressure is the problem, try changing to a slightly thicker oil, say 20-50. If you don't know what the oil presure is, install a mechanical guage. I had a freind with a low pressure problem on very high mileage car who began using straight 50W oil and car ran another 3 years/60K miles before dying.

Vortec 4.3 Ticking that is present at start-up and speeds up as I accelerate, what would cause this?

If you have good oil pressure, a few things come to mind, first it could be a loose rocker, secound it could be a woren or broken rocker, third it could be a weak or calaps lifter. If it sounds like its lower in the engine like around the oil pan it could be a rod or maine problem. But you say its a ticking noise witch leads me to believe its a valve trane problem.

I just bought a 2008 Sienna w/ 44,000 miles. When the engine is cold, doesn't have to be really cold, I hear this ticking noise (not loud) when engine is under slight acceleration between 1500- 2000 rpm....

Sounds like you are describing lifter noise. Go to the car store and buy a pint of Berrymen's Chemtool. Next time the engine is cold, pour the Chemtool into the engine oil. Do your normal driving for the next few days or weeks until you have 150-200 miles (none of them should be highway miles) on the engine, then have the oil changed. Drive for 2000-3000 miles, and do the same thing all over again. Repeat this a couple of times. If the lifter loosens up, your good to go. If it doesn't, then it will have to be repaired by tearing into the engine.

Honda CB250 ticking after it ran out of oil

Is there any area on the bike that is covered with what seems to be "wet dirt"? It is entirely possible you could have a blown seal and are therefore dumping oil. If the dipstick is showing nothing, there is not enough oil for the engine and it will seize so don't run it until you locate the source of the leak.

Unless the bike has constant white or bluish-gray smoke coming out of the exhaust all the time, it's not burning oil.

The tapping you are hearing could be a a lifter, valve, connecting rod...whatever it is, the tick started recently and you don't see oil on the dipstick, there is a major oil leak somewhere.

Depends on how much oil you had to add. If you had to add over two quarts then damage was done. If not check valve clearence.

Engine has ticking sound, oil light came on, and it's full of oil

The ticking could be a spark plug wire shorted out to ground of which you can watch in the dark while the car is running and see if you see a plug wire jumping to ground which will look like a lightening bolt hitting the ground. It could also be a lifter making noise. Could be a exhaust leak. What is your oil pressure? Does your gauge tell you pounds of pressure or is it just a light?

DOES IT HAVE A LOT OF MILES ON IT OR MAY BE THE OIL PUMP IS IS GOING OUT? THERE IS A SPRING IN THE PUMP THAT IS A BYPASS FOR HOW HIGH PSI IT MAY HAVE BROKE THAT WILL GIVE YOU LOW PSI.
