Front end making rattling, thumping noise when driving. Slowing of speed increases the noise.

i would 1st check out the front tires to make sure that they are not defective, if tires check out ok, then i would put the jeep on a rack at a garage, and check out all of the front end components, including c. v. joints and the wheel bearings.

I have a 1988 1500 i am getting a noise like a rattle coming from the front wheel this is after i had a new tyre fitted checking the brake calipers i see that the right side is tight and the left side is...

The caliper should be bolted on tightly at the mounting points, but should float back and forth so the pads do not wear unevenly. Other things to check for odd front end rattles. Are your steering head bearings tight? That can cause rattling or knocking as well as handlebar shaking. A bad front wheel bearing can cause rattling or knocking (one side is bad and the wheel is twisting/rocking. Elevate the front wheel , grab it in the 10 and four position, and see of you can notice the wheel moving where the bearing hits the axle. Fork lower has worn out and the bushing is banging when it rocks. Rare but possible. Should see unusual wear on tube and movement wear tube meets lower. With wheel off , grab bottom of lower tube and top of lower tube check for movement.

There is a tapping that increases with acceleration ... what is most likely the problem. someone said it was a "thrown" pin. they also said that it was prob. 1 of 8 in the front there only...

not sure of what bike you have but tapping noise can be from excess valve clearance, rattle under accelleration could also be piston noise or worst possibility is big end failing.
cam chain will rattle at low speed and tend to dissapear under accelleration

The first thing to check on a rattling noise is if going over minor bumps in the road if that is when it makes noise is a sway bar link, they make a rattling noise. If you raise that wheel up you might also want to try and wobble the wheel to be sure it is not a tie rod end or ball joint. Typically I run into the sway bar links or the sway bar bushings making the noise. However ive even seen it be a rock sitting on the strut plate.

When in idle or gear it makes a rattle noise what can cause this?

Usually it's wear in the clutch basket allowing your clutch plates to rock back and forth causing a rattling or chattering noise from lower end.

Front end rattle

It's a loose steering column. Remove the black plastic shield under the steering wheel. Lossen the bolt that holds the two shafts together, slide them together as far as they'll go, and re-tighten the bolt. It's that simple... to stop that annoying rattle.
