Question about 1972 Honda CB 350 F0

1 Answer

1972 CB350... just put new battery in, new spark plugs,it will start but wont stay running, i think its only running on the left carb because the right exhaust pipe is cool. revving up the RPMs dont seem to "blow it out"... what do you advise me to do?

Straighten me out ... the 350 had one set of points and fired both plugs twice per cycle??? or was it like the 360 that had two sets of points that fired each plug in its turn. Insure you have good spark on both sides before you go any further. If you don't have two sparks, you will get no where. After that is resolved or proven, look to the carb on the right. Explore air leaks on the cold side and/or clogged jet.

No spark from coil

charge the battery fully it may not have enough charge to start, you could jump start it with a battery or a car but not a running car, they put out 16 volts and will fry the electrics,

You need to find out if it is losing spark or fuel when it shuts off. A cheap spark tester will work for this and can be purchased at Harbor Freight or an automotive parts store. If it has spark you can use carb cleaner to spray into the carb and see if it will stay running. Also how long does it run before it shuts off and does it start right back up after it shuts off? More info may be helpful as there are many possibilities.

Cranks but wont start

what i would try is always check for spark if u are getting spark then it must be a fuel problem. with the bad fuel we get now thats what i think is wrong pull the air box off and put gas in the carbs and see what it does if it runs then u no to pull the carbs off and clean them out then try if from there make sure u are getting gas to your carbs first that its not a plugged fuel line. well good luck hope this helps u

My gas trimmer starts but wont stay running

hello sir, my machine will only start when pumping primmer bulb or squirting fluid in the carburetor than stops. the fuel line has broken off, in most small carburetors this is a ongoing problem.old fuel will crystallize when left in tank for a long time.plugging up ports, fuel lines, small screen in carburetor.fuel lines will dissolve clogging carb.this is why it will run when the choke is on creating a vacuum to where there is fuel forced in the carb to rum, also the gas will evaporate leaving the oil behind clogging up carb.the thing to do is remove carb. and clean out, replacing gaskets or fuel line if necessary.use carb cleaner to clean out carb.make sure to make note where fuel line go.the fuel filter broke off of fuel line letting debris get in carb plugging it up.the muffler is known to clog up a lot on these machines where they want run. the compression should be 60 to 120 lbs any thing below 60 is junk. when adjusting the carb screws turn in all the way than turnout 1 1/4 turns turn in slow until machine runs also you need to check for spark by removing plug and grounding against engine to check spark, ok.a new spark plug would be a good ideal too , if you are going to make these repairs use new fuel line and filter, hope this helps, any comments welcome, thank you, !!

Flooded? Try a new plug, or get that one cleaned up. If it is sparking and wet, it should fire, even if it doesn't run, it should spark. Did you put the jets or the needle valves back to where they were? I think they start out at 1 1/4 turns out , then adjust the low and high. If it is fouling out with too much gas, the low speed jet is open too far.

Try to squirt a little gas in the carb and see if it pops or tries to run for a short time. The diaphram in the carb is probably old and hard. That would be the first place I would look.

Wont start has spark , new fuel, new oil.

Is the spark plug black?
It won't run well with a carbonized plug.

Is the main jet in the carb plugged?
If the plug is dry after trying to start it.....your fuel is not getting into the engine and most likely a plugged carb jet..
Also.....Is the fuel switch working...is it in run position?

If the generator has sat for a while with fuel left in the carb/fuel tank.......the most common problem is a plugged varnished dirty carburetor in need of a good cleaning.
Always shut the fuel off and let the carb run dry (run until the engine stops)before storing.
Add fuel stabilizer to any remaining fuel or drain the tank before storing.

I have a 72 honda cb350 and the bike wont start. Just put the carbs back on and checked if there was spark. It will crank, but will not turn over.

Pull the plugs making sure you have wet plugs, fuel is getting through to cylinders.
If no fuel, make sure you have flushed each float bowl by unscrewing the float bowl drain and allowing a bit of fuel to run out, this can reduce airlock in the carb. Make sure the floats are loose. A poor mans fix is to tap the carbs with a screwdriver hand to make sure they are loose. If you still are not getting fuel into the cylinder, pull the carbs, check pilot jet for clean, if you have to order new ones. Do not clean with a drill, use carb cleaner in a small jar and leave them overnight and blow out with compressed air.
Insert and check again...
