Sounds like you might have a cracked cylinder and oil puddled up inside over night and when you started it..it blew out through the exhaust. White smoke means oil...black smoke means gas ,and blue smoke means both..if you cracked a water jacket your oil will look like a bubbly milk shake.....take a look at your oil.

White smoke

White smoke is coolant burning. If the smoke has a blue tint to it that is oil burning. If the smoke has a grey tint that is excess fuel. Any way you look at it, I think a trip to your local garage is in order for an accurate diagnosis.

My 1994 Camry started smoking and overheating after I heard a pop noise. What could this be

Smoking from the tailpipe or the engine bay? At this point it could be that a radiator hose failed and you have lost coolant, or that a head gasket is blown, both of which can make a noise.

More silent is the possible failure of a coolant temp sensor, thermostat, or radiator fan hydraulic drive (if fitted).

The worst is a blown head gasket, and a compression test will show this. A failed radiator hose and coolant loss will be obvious.

  • White smoke out out the tail pipe means you might have just blown your head gasket. White smoke is water (antifreeze) burning with the oil.

Smoking thick white smoke from tailpipe

  • A little is to be expected when first starting an engine.
  • White smoke coming out the tailpipe more than just a little at start up means is that your engine is burning antifreeze. Usually a head gasket leak, cracked head or cracked block.
  • I know this is not good news but please don't "shoot" the messenger. I answered this question so you would not be stuck somewhere with a seized engine. Which is what is going to happen in the near future.

Well, billowing white smoke from the tailpipe is generally antifreeze burning off in the engine, which would indicate either a blown head gasket into a cylinder or a broken fluid passage. In the old days there was a way an automatic transmission could leak trans fluid into the engine and create white smoke too, but that shouldn't apply to your vehicle. Not certain about the noises, but clearly you have some internal damage. You can check the antifreeze level to see if you have lost fluid. You can pull the spark plugs to see if you notice damage to the plugs or deposits on the plugs indicating antifreeze.

White smoke from the tailpipe

GM is my expertise, but white smoke, is white smoke. If it doesnt go away on warm up , also is thick maybe sweet smelling, soundsl like coolant ( antifreeze) is getting into the combustion chamber and burning out through the exhaust, Could be a blown head gasket or cracked head etc. Hope this helps

White smoke usually associated with water or moisture. it doesn't take too much water to produce white smoke. check
