One question...why? Trust me when I tell you this, it is much more trouble than it is worth.

  • FLHR May 11, 2010

Just a note, you will have to make many changes (perhaps costly too) in order to accomplish this. Your ECM, coil, fuel pump assemble, etc must be changed out. You might want to rethink things and ask why you want to make the change? Just trying to help, good luck.

Your asking for a lot of problems as the system u have is toatally dependent on the computer.... u would have to change so many things just for ignition the crank needs to be set up for some sort of electronic ignition as this system uses a crank sensor to the ecu to set up timing and spark as well as o2 sensors and an electric fuel pump manifold air pressure switch these and other sensors tell the ignition what to do it would be easier and less expensive to buy an earlier carbuerated bike

p0171 is fuel injection system too lean - bank 1
possible causes
- Intake air leaks - Faulty front heated oxygen sensor - Ignition misfiring - Faulty fuel injectors - Exhaust gas leaks - Incorrect fuel pressure - Lack of fuel - Faulty Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor - Incorrect Positive Crankcase Ventilation (PCV) hose connection
p0304 is cylinder 4 misfire detected.
possible causes
Faulty spark plug 4 - Clogged or faulty fuel injector 4 - Faulty ignition coil 4 - Fuel injector 4 harness is open or shorted - Fuel injector 4 circuit poor electrical connection - Ignition coil 4 harness is open or shorted - Ignition coil 4 circuit poor electrical connection - Insufficient cylinder 4 compression - Incorrect fuel pressure - Intake air leak
p0305 is same as above but cylinder 5.
p0306 is same as above but cylinder 6.
p0300 is random misfire detected

Starts but will not stay running

Hi Anonymous, and the usual suspects are:
1. Battery terminals loose, corroded, or broken. Check negative cable at both ends.
2. Battery nearly discharged.
3. Faulty or corroded Maxi fuse, system relay, starter relay, circuit breakers and fuses.
4. Faulty ignition coil, ignition/electronic module, CKP, CMP, MAP and BAS sensor.
5. Pin or spade connectors corroeded, melted, broken or pushed back.
6. Intermittant short circuit due to damaged wire insulation.
7. Loose or dirty ignition/electronic module at crankcase.
8. Water or dirt in carburator or fuel system.
9. Faulty fuel pump, pick up tube, pressure regulator or fuel filter.
10. Fuel tank vent system plugged or carburator vent line closed off.

1. Spark plugs are in bad condition, improper gap, partially fouled.
2. Spark plug cables in bad condition.
3. Battery nearly discharged.
4. Loose wire connection at one of the battery terminals, coil, or plug between the Ignition Control Module.
5. Throttle controls not adjusted correctly.
6. Water or dirt in fuel system/tank
7. Water or dirt in carburator.
8. Intake air leak.
9. Fuel tank vent hose and vapor valve plugged, or fuel line closed off, restricking fuel flow.
10. Inrichner valve inoperative.
11. Engine lubricant to heavy (winter operation).

Why does my 2006 mitsubishi endeavor limited has problems starting right away?

Hello --
I thought I already replied to this question -- here is a repeat if so, otherwise, please see the bottom addition - Ck
Look for faults in the fuel injection system, Battery terminal connection loose or corroded; faulty fuel pump; excessive moisture on or damage to ignition components; worn/ faulty or incorrectly gaped spark plugs; broken, loose or disconnected wires at the distributor/ coil pack or starting circuit; faulty ignition coil pack..

ADDITION: I know this sounds weird, but you may want to try playing with the gas cap -- open and close the cap when you go to start it. there may be an issue with the cap.. of vapor lock in the fuel tank, also - when was the fuel filter last changed? How about the fuel tank -- have you added any cleaners or water removeal additives (LIKE LUCAS GAS TREATMENT - not the alcohol only additives which only dry out the fuel)?
Best regards
Ck

My 1998 dyna superglide keeps bogging down, backfiring, powering back up. This happened 3x in about 5 miles. Then it shut off completely. Do you think it could be the coil?

You need three things in order for an engine to run. Compression, Ignition, and fuel. Since it doubtful that you have lost compression, let's work on the other two.

First, pull your spark plug wires off and put a new set of plugs in the wires. Ground them to the engine and spin the engine with the starter. Do you have spark? The answer to this question will provide us with the next step. If you do not, do you have power to the coil. If so, disconnect the wires on each end of the coild and check the resistance of the primary circuit in the coil. It should be between 3 and 4 ohms. If not, repalce coil. If you do have spark. Move on to the next step.

Is the bike carburated or fuel injected? If carburated, are you getting fuel to the carb. Check the vacuum operated petcock. They came out in 1996 and have been a problem ever since. I went to a manually operated petcock. Pingle, well worth the money.

Check you gas cap. If he vent in the cap is stopped up, vacuum builds in the tank and eventually no gas comes out of the tank.

Good Luck
Steve

Motorcycle cuts out and backfires when accelerating. black smoke puffs out when backfiring

I need more information. Is the bike carburated or fuel injected? Did it just start this or has it been doing this for a while? It sounds like either an ignition or a fuel problem.

If it has a carb, I'd say that it's jetted way too rich or the main jet has come loose in the carb maybe. Tell me what kind of carb is on the bike if it is indeed carburated. I need the year model of the bike and the name of the carb on it. Maybe I can tell you how it's supposed to be jetted. If the main jet has come loose, you will lose control of the amount of fuel going into the engine at wide open throttle.

You may have a bad spark plug as well, either get a new set or have the ones you're running now cleaned. When you pull them out, look and see if they're really black and sooty looking. This is indicating a rich mixture. Check your spark plug wires and make sure they're in the coil correctly. Check of loose connections at the coil primary (small wire connections) connectors. Make sure that chrome cover over the coil is not loose shorting out the ignition.

Fuel injected, I can't help you with that as it takes a special device to make any adjustment in that system.

96 ranger likely doesn't have one. The "module" that used to be found in carburated vehicles with Distributors and Rotors has been eliminated by fuel injection , electronic ignition , and computers.
I MIGHT BE WRONG ABOUT THIS , maybe someone will come up with a better answer. In any case you might have to give more info about what the engine is doing ( or not doing ) .
