Use a screwdriver or wrench to jump power across the two poles on the solenoid. If it cranks over when you do this, The solenoid is bad.. Hope this helps...

I would make sure that the solenoid IS working even if it's clicking.
Make sure that the positive voltage is on the field side when it clicks.

Hey, I have a 2011 Polaris 850 touring. When I turn the key to start it it just clicks 1 time, every time I turn the key. I replaced the battery all electronic's work. I also had the starter tested and...

Check the solenoid. The solenoid is the real switch between the battery and the starter, the key switch only activates the solenoid. The click you're hearing is probably the solenoid trying to click in, if it's faulty it makes no contact and the starter will not turn.

My 2000 yamaha 1600 clicks when I try to start it

The clicking may be the starter solenoid. Check for a dead battery or defective solenoid.

Starter solenoid failure

if the solenoid is clicking when key held in start position, indicates power not being transferred to starter, probably down to poor connection at rear of solenoid, some have contacts internally behind the solenoid slider

I have an 89 ford bronco and it wont turn over

Fords require 10 + volts to activate the solenoid.
A faulty solenoid, weak battery, or bad connections can cause the solenoid to click. Especially a battery with a dead cell that looks like it is charged.
If the solenoid is clicking the neutral safety switch is ok. If you are only hearing relays click, take a test light and check the 16 gauge wire on the solenoid for voltage with the key in start position.
Also jumper that post with the battery post on the solenoid to crank the engine.

Well the good news is the click indicates the switch is working, when you press the switch the 2poles on the solenoide are joined together alowing the current to the starter, bridge the wires at the solenoide this should put power directly to the starter you wont need to press the start switch, if the engine does not turn over check the connections to both the battery and starter motor,

Zero turn mower will not start....when you turn key it clicks a couple of times and that is all...have checked connections...put new batter on end of last yr....will not jump off so do not think is...

If you are fairly certain that the battery is not the issue, then more than likely it is your starter solenoid. I also have a Zero Turn mower and one year after I purchased it the same thing happened to me. Once I replaced the solenoid, it fired right up.
This is the one I ordered as a replacement for a replacement for my defective solenoid.

The starter goes on intermittanly, some times turn key up to 50 times before run, other times at the first try. Is it the starter or the solenoid?

If you hear a loud click the solenoid is working.
Whan happen sis the brushes wear and the carbon gets between the contacts on the commutator of the motor. If you hit thr starter with a hammer and it starts... replace it. And at going on 12 years old it's not a bad idea anyway. the new starter should come with a new solenoid
