the engine runs fine but when you use your lights/indicators/brakelight ete ete it takes the charge out of the battary then it dies and wont start again till you charge the battary again like I said all the other stuff has been tested and works fine ie alternator/regulator/retifier and the battary are all good.

what is the charging system voltage at 2,000 RPM?

if the engine runs the battery will charge, if it doesn't then you have a defective part in the charging system, does that answer your question

A guess. If you are running on "start" you might not be charging. But then, if you are running on "Start" I would suspect the starter would also be running. You didnt say this was the problem.

Is your battery going dead? Your alternator is putting out? Check the rectifier.

2008 Triumph Sprint ST cuts out for no reason

Hi, Morne and the usual suspects are:
1. Severely discharged or a damaged battery must have 12.5 volts or more and be able to pass a proper "LOAD" test if necessary, you may have a preliminary reading of 12.5 volts or more but little or zero amperage the battery is faulty and must be replaced, AGM batteries fail in this scenario more so than lead acid batteries.
2. Faulty alternator/generator and or voltage regulator.
3. Loose or corroded battery terminals and or cables especially the "NEGATIVE" cable, look for loose, corroded, or broken connectors inside the cable harness at "BOTH" ends.
4. Faulty main circuit breaker or ignition switch, check for loose connections and continuity.
5. Faulty system and or ignition relay, check for continuity.
6. Faulty ignition coil, ignition/electronic module.
7. Faulty CKP, CPS, CMP, MAP, TPS, or BAS sensor, corroded, loose or broken wire connector pins/sockets.
8. Throttle cables and or idle speed improperly adjusted hot idle speed should be 950 RPM to 1000 RPM.
9. Faulty neutral, side stand or clutch lever safety switch.
10. Fuel tank empty
11. Fuel tank contaminated with ethanol sludge.
12. Water or dirt in the fuel system, or clogged filter.
13. Restricted, blocked or kinked fuel line.
14. Faulty fuel pump.
15. Faulty pressure regulator.
16. Faulty or clogged fuel injectors.
17. Lean angle switch is faulty or needs adjustment.

Hi, Tony and the usual suspects are:
1. Ignition Switch not in the "ON" position.
2. Engine Run Switch in the "OFF" position.
3. Discharged battery, needs to be 12.5 volts or better and be able to pass a load test if necessary.
4. Check the battery terminals for damage or corrosion check the battery cables at "BOTH" ends for loose, corroded, or broken connectors, "INSIDE" and outside the cable harness, perform connector wiggle test and check cables with an ohmmeter if necessary.
5. Tip over sensor needs a reset.
6. Faulty ignition switch.
7. Faulty starter button.
8. Faulty kickstand or clutch pull in switch/sensor.
9. Starter control circuit, relay, or solenoid faulty.
10. Main fuse or circuit breaker may be blown or faulty.

Headlight not working on a 2002 triumph 955i any suggestions

Hi, Rhonda if your headlight is not working, keeps burning out, blinking, or is dim the first thing you need to check is the headlight bulb for damaged filaments then check your light circuit fuse, that being said the usual suspects are:
1. Faulty ground or power supply wire to headlight bulb socket.
2. Worn, chaffed, or broken wires in the light circuit.
3. Corroded, broken, or loose pins/sockets in wire connectors.
4. Faulty hi/lo beam switch.
5. Faulty ignition switch.
6. Fuse is good but no continuity on both sides.
7. Faulty wiring between battery positive and headlight bulb socket.
8. Weak charging alternator/generator.
9. Faulty voltage regulator/rectifier, overcharging.

Sounds to me like one of three possible problems, or some combination of them.

1) Loose or damaged vacuum hose to the MAP sensor. Check all the hoses to your throttle bodies.

2) Bad O2 sensor. Use multimeter to check or take to the dealer (or buy and use Tuneboy.)

3) Throttle Bodies need to be synced. Again, requires trip to dealership

On my 2000 955i sprint I had the same problem. I took the ignition switch apart and there was a loose wire. I re attached the wire and that solved the problem.

Triumph sprint rs 955i,all correct lights come on during start up proceedure but there is only the click of the relay switch when you press start button and no ignition, started as an intermittant fault...

try charging up the battery, the starter needs around 60 amps to turn over compared to the lights that only need around 5 amps, maybe it just doesnt have enough power to turn it over... hope this helps

Hi, the problem lays with your side stand switch. This is designed to stop us riding off with the stand down. When the switch plays up the safety still works with the stand up. Try giving it a good clean and spray with WD40. It gets covered in crud from the chain lube.

I need to know what fluids, how much and what kinds to put in my Triumph Sprint ST 955i

The user Guide and service manual tell you what as well as online searches. I recommend joining a triumph site or sport-touring.net.

I use Mobile 1 full synthetic, purolator pureone filter, andf regular antifreeze.

check for short circuits. it can be stripped wire that makes contact with the bike chassis. This can drain the battery. Also, Charging circuit may be dead (alternator and regulator).
