You state you "turned on switch good spark then stops" are you speaking of the ignition switch? or the kill switch located by the throttle. If the kill switch is in question I's check it out; you should be able to use a simple OHM meter to check for capacitance. Turn the switch on and off and see if capacitance fails while in the run position. If this is the case you either have failing switch or a wire that becomes open. I hope this may have helped, Tom

The poblem could be in the switch. You need to go through a series of steps to figure this out.1.primary power reaching ignition.
2. secondary (high voltage) spark generated from coil.
3. Constant spark to plug.
if your switch is corrupt the intermitent pimary is why you get spark sometimes.Try to eliminate the switch by jumping a wire to the coil primary, (leave the switch off) like your hot wirring the bike.I don't see the oil being involved at all.Take it from a guy who only had Kick Start bikes..It's Gas or Spark..Primary (battery) or secondary ( coil, wires.ect) be patient go slow keep a written record of your stepts.Good Luck.

coil, stator, or wire to ground and to kill switch, it is grounding out somewhere - remove from coil to test.that.
Get inline spark tester at princess auto cheapie 6.00 can, or 10 for a good one. spark plug, timing, head gasket burn valve, hard to tell without compression test. if low put cap of oil in cylinder and if goes up is rings, if stays low (under 50lbs should be 90.) if stays low is a valve or head-gasket.
Check plug if dry when trying to start vehicle with choke on then remove spark plug and inspect it.
is carb or fuel problem if dry, is electrical if wet!
check fuses, and stuff and wires but probably a CDI unit to control the spark, or if old is a set of points and condensor and the spark must be triggered by a CDI, a lobe, or a coil CDI unit combo.
The coils on stator send 12 volt, coil to sparkplug send 20,000 volt and the gap in points or ruluctors should be set properly, typically stator to reluctor is set by a book of matches not folded but put piece carboard in between, spark plug gap say double that..
I suspect without more input fuel or spark. if the engine wont turn over the fuel to oil mixture wasnt enough, or the oil injector for fuel mixture if two stroke maybe clogged and may destroy your engine.
I don't suspect this but giving things to consider later.
Some bikes there is wires in a rubber plug as a chaijn indicator and the chain can break this connection, not sure about 4x4 though.

Kawasaki 300 ATV has very faint to no spark until you stop trying to start, then a full second later, one big spark. Won't run. Any ideas?

Hi mate the cdi if failed you would have no spark period. I strongly recommend re checking stator when spark comes in and out or dies when hot or will only jump start these are all classic stator issues. simple test just need multimeter and read OHMS from the connecting plug of the stator... one of the pairs of wires will read sky high or zero... I don't know exact reading for your model but kwaka will tell you but a dodgy stator will generally read zero on one or more of the pairs of wires cheers mate hope it helps

I have oil leaking out of the engine around the charging system wires. How can I stop this leak.

You'll have to go through all the procedure of changing out your alternator rotor. Then, instead of installing a new stator, you can put that black RTV around the plug that goes in the case and reinsert it into the case. This usually works if the stator is in good shape but I must caution you that if your 2000 model RK has the original stator, the insulation on the wires is probably brittle and will crack when you start messing with it. You might just want to wait until it goes bad or the oil leak gets to bad to live with to mess with it. You'll probably wind up putting a new stator in. Put an OEM stator back in, you'll be better off.

Good Luck

Ok i changed the crankshaft sensor and it has a nascar flip switch to start it with it will try and try allmost turn over but wont what else could i check

Sounds like you say it's trying to start? Check a spark plug or two to see if their wet with fuel or dry. The compression could be low for alot of reasons, ( flooded, overheated, oil gassed from past flooding). Why does it have a flip switch as the security system has to have the key to let the computer turn on the fuel injection and the spark. Has the truck been checked to see good spark? Has fuel been added to the air inlet to see if it'll start with added fuel? The ingtion switch turns on 6 circuits and 4 of them have to be good to set the engine to runing. The ingtion lock cyclinder the engine control computer and the body control computer and the instrument custer module all have to agree that the right key is in the lock or they will not turn on fuel control and spark management. It's almost impossible to make a 93 or newer dodge run hotwired even the transmission controller has to approve the key and all of these modules have to be of the same VIN and not be dead.

I have a 1985 yamaha virago xv1000, i am having a problam getting spark when i got it it had been sitting for 5 years i got it put what needed to be put back on on it and when i went to start it it had no...

If the bike has been sitting for 5 years the battery will be dead lights working does not mean it is good, fit a new one.A hydrometer is a good and cheap tool to check individual cells of a battery.about £7 or $12? from auto store.Allso carefully check and sand all earth cables ,and check cut out switches ,maybe on side stand As for the oil level if you have no dip stick you may have a sight glass on the side of the engine, stand bike upright, put wood under the sidestand on level surface,be very carefull not to drop it, leave to settle .if level correct the oil will be half way up the glass. if this does not help call back.

Measure the charging circuit.Stator output voltage (all three against ground), regulator-rectifier.
The stator should have an output of 13-14V at 2000rpm and rising while you turn the gas more open. The regulator should have a constant 13.5-14.5V at 3000rpm even when you turn on the high beams.Rising rpm should not change the reading on the battery's poles (regulator output)

There is no oil pressure switch to save the motor. You may be ok if the oil level did not drop too low. Change the oil, recharge the battery, put in a new spark plug and fresh gas. You may be lucky and have it start with no damage. good luck
