Question about 2003 kawasaki KLR 250

1 Answer

Need wiring help.

I was given a motorcycle in not running condition. It is a 1988 Kawasaki KL250D, 4-stroke single. Someone has removed all the lights and most of the controls are broken or removed as well. The ignition switch is still in place, still wired into the harness. When they removed the lights, it looks like they simply cut the wires off the harness. The battery is gone. My problem is, it appears that they mistakenly snipped off the battery leads, as there are none to be found. Now I don't know which wires, of all the snipped ends, SHOULD have been connected to the battery.

Find your alternator ... find the wires - follow this to the rectifier (a small probably cube black box about the size of a lighter) this should be the DC supply going into your battery. It will probably run through the ignition switch. You will need a big wire going from NEG to frame (ground) and you will need a big wire going from POS to starter via a starter relay (solinoid).

There is probably a starter relay somewhere. Id say the DC output from the alternator goes to one side of that relay with other wires that get hot when you are in "run". The other side is really 'ground' though the ground MAY be switched.

Let me know if this is of any help.

Hi, James it won't hurt anything, probably smoke a lot and may oil foul a spark plug, why not just drain it and replace with straight gas if your that concerned for more information about your question and valuable "FREE" downloads that you will need please click on the blue links below. I have spark and getting fuel won't start

if its a 2 stroke then you need fuel spark and air to get the bike to start have you got compression? check it by removing the spark plug and put your finger over the hole air try and start the bike your finger should be pulled into the hole if not then a piston ring is either cracked or broken

open the air box and check the filter then clean the carb thats all you need for a 2 stroke

if its a 4 stroke then again check the air filter and compression remember that a 4 stroke doesnt have the oil with the fuel it goes in a separate chamber

hope this helps

You will need a new coil it sounds like someone has mcgivered a coil from a single cylnder. they wont fire together, when one is on the comp stroke the other is on the exaust stroke, but the ignitions often fire a spark on compression annd exhaust strokes ie each time the crank rotates, so they have used this to get it running

Exaust turns red appear to be running too rich, but adjustint carb only makes engine run away 250 atv kawasaki

Red exhaust pipe(s) are usually the result of a too-lean mixture. Don't allow this condition to persist--pistons, valves, and spark plugs will be damaged from the heat. Make sure the ignition timing is correct.

I nee to wire my 1972 kawasaki 100 2-stroke motorcycle so it run

From the dynamo the current generated to induction coil armed with the appropriate capacitor, for relaying the current it via the distributor,(for timing of spark) high voltage/current, and distributed to each plug/Cylinder & called CDI ( Capacitor Discharge Ignition)..........seems the most practical solution I could come up with .
Hope this 1 sparks, fire's &/or a( no pun intended) thread.....................sodeep

I have a wire plus WP124 which wont work on Vulcan

I would need to know the brand and model of the speedo to address that issue.
The tach is probably reading double because your ignition is firing every time the piston comes to TDC. One of the sparks is wasted because the engine is on the exhaust stroke at that point. Tach's sense that spark, but do not know it is a wasted spark, so it processes it as a compression stroke. You need to change the setting on the tach so that it thinks it is reading a 2 stroke single cylinder, then it will read correctly.

I need to know what weight oil to use in my 03 kawasaki kx 125

Use 10w40 motor oil in the gear box. Don't use any synthetic oils, oil marked "EC", or oil with "special" additives. Stick with the major brands; Pennzoil, Quaker State, Mobil or Shell. If in a hot area like Texas or New Mexico go with 20w50.

2aefc43.gif

Use TWO STROKE ENGINE OIL in the pump. If not using an automatic oil pump, then mix the gas and oil 32 to 1. That equals 4 ounces of TWO STROKE ENGINE OIL to one gallon of gas. NEVER use motor oil in the gas. Only two stroke engine oil.

A “very helpful” rating for this answer? Thanks!
