Drive train slipping

1987 kawasaki 300 4x2 bayou

When you try to drive the drive shaft is slipping. Wondering where to start trying to find the problem? Are there bearings in there that go or spindles that get stripped?

Get someone to help--set the brakes and try to drive it. The other person needs to watch what is turning. If it turns into the differential, but nothing happens coming out on either side, then drain the oil out of, and open the cover on the differential. Look at the drive pinion gear (you can run this for a short time without lubrication), is it turning? That will turn the ring gear which turns the differential unit. If one axle turns, but the other side doesn't, look for a broken axle on the side that turns. If the input pinion gear doesn't turn, look for a broken pinion shaft. Hope this helps!

86 kawasaki 300 bayou, turn the key on, hit start button and there is nothing. i did find a wire terminal on the regulator / rectifier Fixed it and still nothing. what component should i look at..?

Hi, Lee and the usual suspects are:
1. Ignition Switch not in the "ON" position.
2. Engine Run Switch in the "OFF" position.
3. Discharged battery, check battery terminals for damage or corrosion, check the battery cables at "BOTH" ends for loose, corroded, or broken connectors, "INSIDE" and outside the cable harness, perform connector wiggle test and check cables with an ohmmeter if necessary.
4. Bank angle sensor tripped and ignition/light key switch not cycled to the "OFF" position and then back to the "ON" position.
5. Faulty starter button/switch.
6. Faulty jiffy stand or clutch pull in switch/sensor.
7. Security alarm needs a reset.
8. Starter control circuit, relay, or solenoid faulty.
9. Electric starter shaft pinion gear is not engaging or over-running starter clutch slipping.

Will the rear drive shaft on a Kawasaki bayou 220 work on a Kawasaki bayou 300 ?

Hi Janna, after careful deliberation 4 out 5 Kawasaki Gods give this one a thumbs up, but just to be on the safe side you should give your local dealers parts/service department a call to confirm. Good luck and have a nice day.

1987 kawasaki 185 bayou reverse light

No, the reverse light is only for reverse indication. If the light is coming on while riding in any forward gear there is a loose connection, probably where the reverse sender attaches to the transmission or the sender itself is malfunctioning.

Kawasaki 300 bayou won't rev up.

No guarantees but try this. Pull the slide from the throat of the carb. Now move the clip on the jet needle down one notch. This will richen the low end mix. Two notches may be needed but do one notch at the start.
