Question about 1991 BMW K 75 S

1 Answer

Electrical issue on K75s.

Electrical failure on K75s. Starter won't turn over, no front lights, only '1' flash of left hand signal when you push any of the turn /cancel buttons!!!, no horn. However with a gear engaged and the bike rocked backwards and forwards it appears the starter motor disengages and allows all the electrics to work fine! It then starts fine but usually means I loose all the lights and only have the '1' flash of the left turn signal back again! Whats going on here?

Had the starter out the other day and everything seemed fine. I was thinking it may be the spragg clutch failing to disengage but couldn't work out how this would effect the electrics. Swapped the starter relay with a known good one and no difference. Am waiting for a load shedding relay to try that. Have checked all the earths and disconnected and cleaned them. New battery fitted about a month ago and all terminals are clean. Have removed handle bar switches and sprayed with copious amounts of WD40.
The only other problem that I have noticed is that even when all the electrics are working fine the front brake light does not work (rear is OK) but I am expecting this to be just the switch and not the cause of the other problems. Have yet to check out the switch. Cheers, Neil

If the motor rocked foward/backwards then things seemed to start working its not the starter motor. It sounds like the motor is resting or putting tension or have melted/shorted some electrical wires and when it rocks foward/backward releases the tension on wiring causing the random shorting. Check all your electrical wiring around the motor and make sure none look to be too tight or under pressure.Depending on you setup you may need to pull the fairings off for a full inspection

Keep in mind that WD40 is a lubricant not electrical contact cleaner and is highly flammable. It won't do much for corroded connections if they are shorting. Try to purchase some electrical contact cleaner that dissolves after about 5-10 seconds and cleans any oxidation. Also you can purhase some dielectric grease for the fittings after they have been repaired or replaced to lock ou moisture.

Alpha Romeo 156 My Left hand indicator light stays on continually, does not flash. and when I turn the hazard light switch on both indicators continually glow.

Generally speaking, symptoms of a bad or failing turn signal bulb are usually the culprit...in your case, either it's the front left or rear bulb. Varies for different vehicle makes...common signs include:
  1. turn signal light staying on solid
  2. or blinking very fast
  3. or either sides of the bulbs stop blinking altogether.
To test this, make sure you reconnect everything you disconnected.
Turn the left signal light on; go to the front of the vehicle, is the turn signal bulb illuminated? If it lights up, even though it is not blinking obviously the bulb is okay. If it doesn't, replace it- problem solved. You'll do the same procedure for the rear turn signal Is that lit up? If not replace the bulb and the problem is solved.
Another common failure is when the turn signal blinks really fast, same procedure as mentioned above.
If both bulbs for the left side and right side illuminate but don't blink, the problem is in the steering column turn signal switch.
If the left or right side blinkers don't work properly at all...then check the integrated hazard warning/turn signal flasher relay- that may be defective; again, that's usually the case if both sides of the signal light don't work.
If you are blowing any fuses related to the flasher system, you have an electrical overload in the turn signal circuitry.

How to set & cancel theft deterrent system or how to set & cancel security...

Theft deterrent system (on some models)

Theft deterrent system is designed to deter vehicle theft. The system flashes the turn signal lights and turns on the interior light or the signal lights only (depending on the model), and sounds security horn and vehicle horn when it detects abnormalities such as follows:

• Any door or hood is forcibly opened.
• The batter terminal is disconnected and then reconnected
• The system control is disconnected and then reconnected.
• Abnormal impact is detected when the impact sensor function is on.

The system flashes the turn signal lights and turns the interior light or the signal lights only (depending on the model), and sounds security horn and vehicle horn if someone attempts to damage or break into your car.

Setting the system

You can set the system with or without the impact sensor function. For details, see "Canceling the impact sensor" below.

1. Turn the ignition key to "LOCK" and remove it.
2. Have all passengers get out of the vehicle
3. Push the lock (set) switch on the wireless remote control key once. At this time, the turn signal lights flashes once and the security indicator light comes on.

The system is set after 30 seconds. At this time, the security indicator light start flashing slowly.

Once the system is set, you cannot start the engine until you cancel the system.

The system will not be set in the following cases.

• When any of the door is open; security horn sounds for 1 second, close the door and set the system again.
• When the hood is open; close the hood securely.

Canceling the Impact Sensor

The impact sensor can be cancelled to prevent false alarms from being triggered incase of the following conditions:

• When parked in the noisy area
• The vehicle body or glass is subjected to a strong impact from the (such as in highly pressurized car wash).
• When transporting by a car carrier or ferry.

To cancel the impact sensor;

1. Lock the door by pushing the lock (set) switch on the wireless remote control key once, and turn signal light flash once
2. Then push the lock (set) switch twice within 5 seconds. At this time, the turn signal flash 5 times to indicate the impact sensor function is disable.

The impact sensor is deactivated as long as the system remained armed.

Canceling the system

The system will be cancelled by the following two ways:

• Turn the ignition key from "LOCK" to "ON" position.
• Unlock any of the doors by pushing the unlock (cancel) switch

If the turn signal lights flash 3 times, the system has been alarmed. Check to see if there is any abnormality with your vehicle.

If any of the doors is not opened within 30 seconds, all doors will be automatically locked and the system will be set.

When the system is set

Activating the system; When the system detects abnormalities such as follows, it flashes the turn signal lights and turns on the interior light or the turn lights only (depending on the model) and sounds the security horn and vehicle horn of 30 seconds.

• Unlocking any door without using wireless control
• Any door or hood is forcibly opened.
• The battery terminal is disconnected and then reconnected.
• The system control assembly is disconnected and then reconnected
• Abnormal impact is detected when the impact sensor function is on.

Reactivating the alarm;

Once set, the system automatically resets the alarm after the alarm stops.

The alarm will activate again under the same circumstances described in "Activating the system".

Stopping the Alarm

The alarm will be stopped by the following two ways;

• Turn the ignition key from the "LOCK" to "ON" position.
• Unlock any of the doors by pushing the unlock (cancel) switch.

The system can be cancelled by these ways at the same time.

If the battery becomes discharged due to the vehicle being unused, for a long time etc., when the battery is recharged or replaced, the system will activate the alarm. If this happens, immediately unlock any of the doors by pushing the unlock (cancel) switch, and the alarm will stop.

Testing the system

1. Set the system
2. Insert a wireless remote control key into the key hole on the driver's door handle, and unlock the door.
3. Open the door, and an alarm will sound.
4. Stop the alarm by pushing the unlock (cancel) switch.
5. Repeat this operation for the front passenger's door.

Good luck.

Please help! It turns on, command light is flashing green, no turn off, doesnt move if i dont put water in manually

Failures, which occurred during the program will store and indicate for customer by flashing start LED (light-emitting diode). Appliances which have no program sequence or no 7-segment display can't exatcly show the failure. On these appliances the failure can only be found by starting the test program.

The passive test program shows the stored failure. If there is no failure the passive test program runs normal.

1. Switch off the appliance
2. Push start button and hold it
3. Choose position 1 of the "turning knob" turning right side (program 1).
4. Finish pushing the start button when the start LED flashes.
5. Failure indication
6. Repair the failure
7. Solve the failure by pushing the start button for longer than 3 sec.
8. Start the passive test program again. If there is no failure detected, test all LED's and after that choose program 1.
9. Finish the passive test program by pushing the start button for shorter than 3 sec.

Thank's to your description of failure I will check all hydroulic inlet water circuit and electrical component in "inlet water" phase (electrical valve, flow meter (if exist), OWI, VWI, wiring, CB...etc)

When I indicate right the left indicator flashes both on the dashboard and outside the car, indicating to the left work fine, the hazards work fine. I have changed the indicator but the same problem...

Here's my guess... An often overlooked problem in electrical apparatuses on a vehicle is the GROUND connections.. A light can be grounded by its case.... OR there can be a special wire running to it from the frame to serve as the ground. I believe you're having a failure of one of your turn signal lamps on the right side of the vehicle (could be either front or rear) to properly ground to the frame or body of your vehicle. The failure could result in the turn signal circuitry feeding back and using the other light fixtures grounding to serve in making a circuit...for the turn signal flasher.... and causing the other lights to flash, because THEY are serving as the ground. Let me tell you, a faulty GROUND can create the hardest, weirdest, most confusing problems to diagnose on a vehicle. Good luck.

Fast flashing turn signals

I would change out the turn signal bulb on the right front. A blown bulb can cause the fast flash issue. The signals staying on is not related to the bulb being blown. That is most likely a problem with the multifunction switch, the knob you use to signal.

Wiring diagram for 2004 gsxr 1000 turn signals

The circuit is this:From your fuse box runs a Light Blue wire to your left handlebar switch. That wire is "live" and transfers power to the turning signal switch. That switch depends on what direction you push it, transfers the power to:1) Light Green wire that powers the right hand turning signal bulbs (front and back)2) Black wire that powers the left hand turning signal bulbs (front and back)Each bulb uses a Black/White wire to ground and close the circuit.
