Your thermostat is stuck open not letting the engine get up to operating temp. You probably are not getting very good heat out of the vents either. the oil light is a serious concern though even if you oil level is good there is a good chance you have oil sludge build up clogging you oil pick up tube. this happens on older 1.8t i am assuming that is what you have. That is a job for a shop they will need to replace oil pick up tube quite a few breather hoses and seals this is not a cheap fix. and it is also very labor intensive. You might also want to do water pump and timing belt as well when they are in there it will be about 2000 or so this would not be a job i would take to an outside shop. audi knows what they are doing would be a good idea to go there.

Why is 2001 audio overheating

Most Audi's over heat for one reason. Bad cooling processes and equipment.

what does that mean?

Audi Cooling system. Is under pressure... if hoses (heater core) are plugged or the thermostat fails or its a hot day and the cool fans arent running you are likely to experience the dreaded AUDI VW cooling issues.

First things First. Check the coolant and OIL level.

any white sludgey stuff in the oil (popped head gasket)
low oil.. could be over heating your engine.

Freezing cold day when it is over heating.. frozen coolant

Thermostat issues are hard to determine and So cheap to rectify...
ask yourself this? when was it changed last if not in the last 60 K and you are having an issue. REPLACE IT.. Now you can trust it again.

Over heating issues after replacing a thermostat or having a low coolant issues and you have filled it again.. its likely you have the double dreaded AUDI AIR BUBBLE.

I have worked out a few by letting the engine warm up and cool down repeatedly 6 - 10 times..
By WARM up I dont mean over heat and destroy.

Ever time it heated to normal operating temp the thermostat opened and moved some air around the loop.
when the system cooled i added a little more audi coolant to the tank and repeated the process eventually the bubles come out enough to drive.

be smart take it to teh end of the drive and back and check the temp, oil and coolant.
park it.. let it cool
next drive take it down the drive, to the end of the neighbors drive and back.. re check the temp, oil and coolant.. see the pattern?

DO IT.

lol It works for me.. Be patient. double check yourself before driving. Double check it again.. like you need to start the task from the finish.. you will be surprised the things you find you missed. : )

Cheers and good luck.

Temp light flashing after starting.outside temp.-17

Extreme cold weather is causing coolant to contract and fluid level is reading low level ... After starting with the engine warm the temp light should go off due to expansion of the coolant ... Solution: Add a small amount of coolant to compensate for cold weather contraction. Good luck!

On a 1996 grand am se when the car is cold the check oil light comes on but after its warm u shut it of and restart it goes out.whats wrong?

The oil level is probably too low, get an oil change, not only will they fill up your oil and change the filter, but if something is more seriously wrong they will bring it to your attention.
Plus an oil change is cheap insurance.

001 audi a4 1.8T quattro has had an itermittent oil burning smell (cabin and external) and as of recently I have noticed an occasional antifreeze odor as well. There is 77k on the car. The valve cover had...

hi tina
it might be a few things unfortunatly, 77k is not much for these cars but allot can go wrong with them, i can start with, valve guid seals these tend to wear arround 100,000 but deppends on use, wether hard driving or town, so you could be getting close to these, you can also check visually if there is another leak from the valve cover on the rear side or this might just be ressidue from the previouse leak, sometimes the smell of unburnt fuel can fill the car if the wind is blowing in opposite direction when standing still can fill the cab with fumes dont worry only minor, it possibly is the cold air rather than smoke condensation from the exhaust is warm and hitting cold air will do that, it dosent realy sound drastic and just keep an eye on the fluid levels as you are doing but i dont think there is much to be concerned about....hope this helps

E2200 oil light comes on when cold then goes off after warmed up. The oil level is good

try replacing oil preasure switch, if light still comes on then have oil preasure checked , (when cold) may need oil pump if presure is low, if you caught problem early you wont do any engine damage, again start with the switch .hope this helps.

"Check engine" light stays on.

How many miles? One thing is with diesel engines the glow plugs do come back on till engine hits a low warm temp when it's cold out. You may see the light come one once or twice after it's first started.

Oil light comes on in hot weather

Changing the computer doesn't sound right. Most likely a bad oil temp sensor. Make sure you are using the recommended weight (synthetic) oil.
