05 1200c sporty stalls out or just sputters at idle only after it gets up to running temp.cam shaft sensor has been replaced,carb reworked,plugs wires,fuel all checked and harley dealer still cant determine the problem.any ideas? it runs fine thru all gears but spits and chokes out when u idle at stop signs,lights etc.it runs ok until running temp is reached.then when opening the throttle is when it just sputters.sometimes it will catch and rev up but sometimes it dies.it might start back up but just barely runs and impossible to go.please help.cant drive it,cant sell it.

check the cam shaft position sensor
check fuel pressure at the rail
run the fault codes again

I don't really agree with the IAC idle air control valve however, you can test it by unplugging it while the car is running; if the valve is bad (assuming no bad wires or pcm problems) the engine will not change it's sound. On the other hand if it's good the engine will sputter and have an erratic idle but probably wont die...........
A common culprit of your cars condition is often a bad crank shaft or cam shaft position sensor; for most vehicles they are easy to change and only $10 or so. There are tests that can be done to check the parts and that another topic. The crank shaft position sensor is where I would start. And, as another person said the fuel filter is a good thing to replace; could be your problem, and it probably needs it anyway. Good luck and try and keep from throwing parts at her; work the problem don't let it work you.

be checking emissions controls for vacuum leaks..

Sorry take it to a dealer who have the right software to diagnose the problem,But first do check the engine breather pipes as i have had similar problems with earlier ford focus where the pipes in the front of the engine split and go soft causing very bad idle/run symtoms

check for the pinched vacuum line at the carb,, sportys are hard to locate because they are tucked in way behind , it ay have come disconnected, unless there is a load on the motor it will idle fine, add a little load and you get the feeling no fuel is getting through unless you rev it up

Are you sure this has a carburetor? By 85 most were fuel injected. Did you check the gap on the plugs? Clean the threads and seat? Map sensor maybe bad.

I'd replace the fuel filter and check the fuel pressure.

i take it its carb. after it warms up to operating temps does it stop the sputtering? thats just a HD CV carb doing what it does til hot. Im not talking a 2 min warm up and off u go im talking operating temps of 200 plus. Is the carb an S&S? Your going to have high rpms til the temp kicks it down if its injected

Have you tried changing your fuel filters or using a diesel fuel injector cleaner. You could check your air filters also. It sound as though it is having trouble with fuel or air flow. If these both check out try your idle management control sensor You may also want to check the injectors for blockage

I replaced the Cam Shaft Sensor. I also cleaned the Throttle Body with carb cleaner. I had my wife hold down the accelerator, while running I sprayed down the throttle plate and the entire area around it. Now my TB finally idles smoothly, and it hasn't died yet!! Check engine light is gone and I passed the emissions test!! Yea!!!
