1986 honda spree starter won't engage? Horn & rear brake light work, no head lite, hi or low, no turn signals, electric starter not working. Kick starter gives a spark to plug. Has not run in a couple of years. New battery @
Hi, Jack before testing any electrical component in the Starting Circuit it is "IMPERATIVE" that you have a fully charged battery of 12.5 volts or more and be able to pass a proper "LOAD" test if necessary, you may have a preliminary reading of 12.5 volts or more but little or zero amperage, the battery is faulty and must be replaced. AGM type batteries fall into this scenario more so than lead-acid batteries.
1. Ignition Switch not in the "ON" position.
2. Engine Run Switch in the "OFF" position.
3. Engine Run Switch is "FAULTY" or corroded.
4. Check the battery terminals for damage or corrosion check the battery cables at "BOTH" ends for loose, corroded, or broken connectors, "INSIDE" and outside the cable harness, perform connector wiggle test and check cables with an ohmmeter.
5. Bank angle sensor needs a reset or is faulty.
6. FOB battery low or dead.
7. Faulty ignition switch.
8. Faulty starter button.
9. Faulty kickstand, clutch, neutral safety switch.
10. Security alarm needs a reset.
11. Starter relay, solenoid, starter motor or circuit wiring faulty.

i would look at your brake light switch if you say all the fuses are good.look above where you put your foot on the pedal you should see a switch on a bracket so that when the pedal is pressed the plunger on the switch moves out and makes the lights come on. link the cables together that go on the switch and the brake lights should come on. if they dont check at the switch to make sure that one of those cables is live, the other one should go to the lights at the back. hope this helps.

The problem is that the tail lights, light bulbs get too hot and melt the plastic where the bulb socket goes into the lens assembly. On the lens assembly you will see one to three metal tabs where the socket fits into. Lift up the tab a little bit with a screw driver and place a small amount of either metal or plastic underneath the tab so it will get a good connection. It will fix the problem.

spray contact cleaner on the switch and with the brake lever removed push your finger on the switch and work it .On mine I twisted the switch a little with my finger while the switch was pushed in and got it working.fine
