2009 Street Glide surged forward in the middle of an intersection

While down-shifting to stop at red light at busy intersection I was just getting ready to pull the clutch in and the RPM's immediatly shot to 3200 and I ended up in the middle of a major intersection. A truck moving from my left to right was just able to avoid hitting us strait on. This has happened about 4 times now and the only way I can slow the idle down is to roll the throttle forward which is un-safe. All the way home today the injector lite stayed on as well.

Has anyone else seen this issue? The dealer said I may need the idle adjusted, but it seems like a bigger problem to me.

Thanks for your help......

If you can lower the idle with the grip than it appears the return spring isn't working right or its missing. If you have an injector fueling when it is not supposed to be, that needs to be addressed before you ruin the rings and brgs. or get squished. I'm looking at it being a bad return spring. It should go to idle on it's own when you let go the grip.. Good Luck and ride safely. Ned

Battery is charged, Starter Whines and is turning but bike won't fire off, 2009 Street Glide

is your engine turning over, if it is, pull your spark plugs and clean them. this happens on my 98 Heritage Softail Classic. It sounds funny but from long warm ups with choke pulled they get carbon build up and this keeps the plug from firing. If your motor is not turning over then you Bendix gear is out on your starter.

Whisetling from primary, speeds up with rpms.a surging when down shifting into a stop.banging when motor engages on start

Sounds like the primary chain adjuster has slipped loose or something. I'd pull the primary cover off and take a look to see if I saw anything that didn't look right. Just drain the primary by removing the drain plug on the underside back where the clutch is. Remove the floorboard and the bolts and take the outer primary cover off. You can see the whole setup then. The chain should have 3/4 to 7/8 inch freeplay in the middle.

Good Luck

Changed handle bars on 2009 flhx street glide -will not start

I would be inspecting the kill switch. Only thing on the bar that could be it other than the start button.

2009 Street glide idles poorly, strong gas smell, stalls

The 09 models come with a "parade" mode which causes the rear cyclinder to quit firing when idling in traffic etc to combat over heating. You should be able to kick it on by rolling the throttle grip FORWARD for 5 to 10 seconds. Have you changed the pipes or air filter? If you have and never had the EFI adjusted (either factory download or fuel tuner installed) your bike could be running extra rich causing the over heating and eventual engine destruction. New Harleys run rich from the factory, any changes to the intake/exhaust system without proper fuel injection management will cause overheating. Try getting your bike into parade mode by rolling the throttle forward to the stops for a few seconds, that will cool things down.
