It won't build up any more than 40 psi. ... I have oil blowing out of the oil breather on the pump. ... worn, and you are getting oil blowby into the air pressure chamber as the compressor runs. ... Doug in s.d.ca on Identifying An Older Air Compressor; Doug in s.d.ca on Craftsman upright air compressor slow starting and blowing ..
I can not find a Craftsman compressor with that model number anywhere so here are a couple things to look into. If the compressor fills to 70psi and keeps on running check the valve plate and piston/cylinder assemblies. Check that the valve reeds on the valve plate are not bent, broken or warped from heat. Then check that the wiper (oil less) or pistion rings (oil splash) are not damaged and that the cylinder wall is not scarred up. Any of these will let the compressor fill up to the point where the air pressure leaks past the valves or piston and won't fill any further. If the compressor fills to 70psi then shuts off the problem is in the pressure switch. Some have an adjustment screw or bolt to control when it turns on and shuts off. If you had a drop from 100 to 70 the springs may be weak or broke and you'll have to replace the switch.
Two probably causes are: 1. Too much oil in the crank case. Compressors don't have a lot of oil in them and the oil level must be at the full mark on the dip stick or sight glass. Over filling it will make the motor work harder and some oil will get forced out the vent cap. 2. You may have compressed air going into the crankcase causing oil to get blown out the vent cap. This occurs if compressed air is getting past the piston, either through a hole in the piston or past the rings because either the rings or cylinder are damaged.
Do not add oil too your forks. Too much oil will jam the forks up, damaging the fork tube chrome and the fork bushings. If you suspect incorrect oil levels in the tubes, drain the tubes and refill them with the correct amount of oil. If there is too much pressure in the system, then loosen an air tube and bleed off the excess pressure. You may have a defective air pressure valve or pump. Parts that may or may not be available from the local dealer any more. More information can be found at ngwclub.com or Randaaks.com. Do not over fill your forks with oil. Let the air pressure out of your forks.Use the compressor on the GL1200 to reduce or add air pressure to the forks. The controls for the compressor are located on the dash. Turn the key the "On" position to use the compressor
if you go to sears parts you should be able to see a parts diagram and see if all the parts of the pump are as they should be from what i know there is a piston that moves up and down there are two sides to the pump head the top piece and the muffler with the filter lets air in the other side has the flex hose it isn't to complicated to take apart make sure parts are in the right order on diagram . i think the parts can be dry oil isn't going to hurt any thing though just make sure you don't have to much in the fill tube the bottom of that tube should only cover the little gear in the see-through port half way any more than that and oil and air will come out that tube
are you talking about the little regulator gauge droping while you use it, as it does.its all to do with how much psi can pass through the airline at once. ther for since air is leaving the regulator it drops but when u stop using it it should shoot up straight away, if it doesnt means your regulator needs ajusted.
hi buddy strip the end off the check valve out and inside is a rubber turn this rubber around and try this if it still downt work it sounds like the pressure switch faulty get back to me
You can go to any Home Depot and buy compressor oil for your compressor. Your operators manual should tell you what the level should be, however if you don't have one, filling it with oil until it fills the glass tube about half way should be sufficient.
Many craftsman compressor are built by champbell hausfeld using a dry type of cylinder and piston (no oil, no crankcase). If dry type, check for worn cylinder and piston ring. Pieces of the vinyl ring can jamb between the reed valves in the head causing air to escape from the intake. If your compressor has a crankcase and oil, check for broken reed valves in head. Spray soap solution on hoses, checkvalve, drainvalve, and fittings to check for leaks. Most likely problem is reed valves broken or open. Parts are available from sears or match parts to chpower.com. enjoy
