1988 Honda Shadow VT800. The gear shift is stuck. Will not move up or down. Looking at the diagrams, there is are 2 gear spindles. One from the left, which involve removing the flywheel, and one from the right, which involves removing the clutch. Neither moves. What could be causing the blockage?

Something may have broken, like a dowel on the shifting drum and jammed the mechanism.

Drove my 1988 vt800 shadow into the garage cause it wasn't charging ? Put in a new stator and all is well Except now the shifter won't move ? Tomorrow I'm bleeding the clucth and move the shifting bolt closer to the case We'll see all was perfect prior ?

just changed the stator on a 1988 Honda vt8oo and found that I had the same problem when I got done, Removed the the case once again then went to the shifter shaft and played around with it till it got centered, went in 1/4 inch more and all was fine.

You have to turn shifter up or down 1-2 teeth, or you have a problem at link betwen right and left connet. rod, you can see correct position if you take of round plug, it is behind and down from outer shifter.
