Check the fuse first, then check the light bulbs ( some bulbs have two filaments and one will work and the other is burnt out, there's a bright one for stop and turn lights and a dimmer one for running lights, replace the bulb if either one of the filaments has burned out). Look in the owners manual for bulb # or look in the chart at the auto parts store or Walmart.

Most likely a blow out tail light bulb, I know the brake lights work but there are two parts to a taillight bulb, internally there are two wires one for the brake light and one for the taillight, hope this helps, oh and make sure its the right bulb, check the manually or ask for help when you purchasing is from your local parts store.

I have a 2000 Dodge Durango I bought about 4 hours ago. The tail lights do not work but the brake light and turn signals do. Also the dash lights do not work. The dash lights came on when I hit the...

The odds are the one fuse is blown for the dash and the tail lights. And the wrong bulb may have been put in for the brake light. The brake light is feeding back into the tail light circuit causing the fuse to blown out.

Change out the bulbs with OEM bulbs and replace the blown fuse. That should fix the problem.

Need fuse schematic

if the fuse was blown the stop lights on both sides would be inop, also if the stop light circuit were dead u would be unable to get the trans out of park, use a 12 volt test light and test the brake light switch at the top of the brake pedal, u can buy a test light from Autozone, kragen and others for about $5 US. If the system has power cjheck the bulb socket it may be defective, use the 12 volt test light while someone pushes the brake pedal. let me know what u find and i will give u further assistance as ness.
