If this is a motor on a generator, they are usually only run during emergencies. That being the case the gas sits in them. The tank is not a big problem, it's the carb that gets gummed and plugged up. Using the gas that is sold today, most contain ethanol which contains some water. It sounds like the motor is running on what's in the carb and then stalls out for lack of fuel. Changing or removing the fuel filter if there is one may help. On the generator I have, I put a new inline fuel filter in. The generator would start and do the same. I took the fuel filter out and the motor starts and runs. I did have to take the carb apart and clean out with carb cleaner, even ALL the little tine holes in the carb with compressed air and a straight pin. Even though the shop cleaned the carb, they might have removed the fuel bowl on the bottom of the carb which has a needle valve that lets the fuel enter the bowl and gives the motor the initial amount to start and run. They might not have removed the carb and sprayed out the holes in the carb. I would remove the fuel filter and run it that way. If the motor runs then stall, I would remove and clean the carb.
There is obviously a blockage somewhere along the way.
The most common problem with these microcarbs is that fuel has been left for too long and has blocked the fuel jet (Or in the line before it) . Old fuel goes sludgy and then like varnish so sometimes the ONLY cure is another carb BUT nothing to lose by trying various solvents (Carbontetrachloride if you can find some)
Another 'Try' would be brake cleaner with a straw attachment (Think WD40 can) and force that into every orifice you can find.
Even WD40 may help dissolve it.
If none of those work strip everything off the carb and immerse in boiling water. If no joy - NEW CARB.
I have a duromax 16hp engine on a murry go kart ran perfectly fine we took engine off kart painted kart put motor back on go kart now wont idle unless holding choke halfway open and new gas we drained gas before we started work on kart plesas help only about 10 hrs
You can eliminate the motor by unbolting the pump from it and then if it will start the problem is with the pump or the unloading valve. If it does not start with the pump removed then you check for spark and get the carb cleaned or have a kit put in it.If it does start then check to see if the pump turns freely,if so disassemble the unloader valve and clean and lube it so that the pump and motor can relieve the pressure it needs to when the trigger is not engaged,if the pump can't be easily turned by hand then then pump needs to come apart, dealership should do this.
I have a 5hp honda power washer sat for 2 years it will only run if I spray gas in the carb as soon as I stop spraying the engine stops I have took off carb and cleaned it
You need to either clean the carb really good (take it apart) or rebuild it or both. Sounds like your needle is gummed up and not letting fuel through.
Install a new stock NGK spark plug and try to start the engine. If the bike doesn't start and run properly then shut off the gas and remove the carburetor from the engine.
Remove the float bowl and clean the entire carb with a spray carb cleaner from the auto parts store. Wear protective goggles to avoid getting spray in your eyes. Spray into all the little airways and fittings in the carb. Don't be chincy with the spray. You probably have a varnish buildup that is stubborn to remove. Remove the two screws on the outside throat of the carb and spray into the screw holes as well. < < READ CLOSELY > > Be sure to put these two screws back in the same hole they came out of. IMPORTANT > do not tighten these two screws down. Only screw these in until they LIGHTLY seat. Now turn each screw one and one half turns outward. Put the rest of the carb back together, clean the air filter and install the carb. Be sure the bolts are tight. Let the float bowl fill then start the engine. Set the idle speed with the idle screw. This process should get you back on the road. Please rate this solution. Thanks!
