Key goes in the driver's lock and only opens the driver's door. Car alarm goes off when door is opened and will not start. Have tried multiple times. Can you help?

  • mhord Aug 16, 2009

No remote on the car. It can only be opened by the key. When the key is locked, you hear the pump in the trunk activiate all 4 doors, however when you turn the key twice to open all 4 doors, only the driver's door opens and the alarm is not de-activated. I understand there could be a broken wire in the driver's door through the rubber boot, or the kedy activator is broken inside the driver's door. It appears towing the car to the dealer may be the only option. Any thoughts on this one?

Although it has no remote the simptoms are same. So it's something simular. The car alarm is getting a message that the car is being broken into so disables it. As it is a burglar alarm it won't be possible for me to advise you any further as probably only make the problem harder to fix. Im sorry I could'nt help as it makes me feel bad when a joy rider of 12 probably could have it running in 5 minute's!

SOURCE: After alarm goes off, all electrical works except car won't start

hi there
from what it sounds to me is that the alarm is still in anit theft mode
i had this happen to my vehicle

one thing you can try is lock all the doors try and unlock from the passenger side make sure that all the lock come up to the top where they should be
then try it

if that does not work then lift up the rear of the car like it was being towed and it should reset the alarm
short of that you will have to have alarm shop come to you

SOURCE: can not lock car by key remote . toyota rav 4 53 plate

If your car has an alarm with a separate remote, it is a separate system and it is probably self-arming. When you lock the doors with the key central lock, the alarm gets armed by the RAV4 being OFF and the door locking action. When you unlock the doors with the key, the alarm is still armed because the key is not comunicating with the alarm just the cars factory keyless system.

Key Fob does not work and alarm goes off when raining

the central locking control unit is in the drivers door. there's a polythene sheet in the door panel. If that's ripped or petrified then rain may be screwing with the electrics. it may be worth taking off the door panel and wrapping it the controll unit in a shopping bag or summat.....

you can try switching the key to the "on" position then open the hood and disconnect the negative terminal of the battery and reconnect after 2minutes. this will allow the alarm to be '"reset" and will recognize that you have the key for the vehicle.
