While driving speedodmeter stops working and bike sputters

While driving speedometer will drop from current speed to zero, digital mileage counter then shuts off as well. This will continue as I drive. If bike is just started, it will sputter when the speedometer shuts off. What is the dealio!

Sounds like a grounding problem. I know not easy to fix. To start with, I suggest running another ground wire (just a jumper wire with alligator clips on each end) from the instruments to the frame and see if the problem goes away then if fixes make the repair perminent. Best wishes.

I have a 96 Kawasaki Vulcan vn800 classic my speedometer stopped working, the lighting (neutral and high beam) still works, my mileage & trip counter don't roll and the actual speedometer doesn't work

I dont know that specific motorcycle but I solve a similar issue on the suzuki same size and class... Usually the speed sensor on the front wheel breaks or the parts that transfer the rotation to the cable leading up to the speedometer are worn or broken. This seems common on some of the newer bikes. I would start looking there. You should find a good supply of replacement parts reasonable on Ebay

I am no Honda expert, but a similar problem happened to my ex sister in-laws Ford Taurus. The speed odometer would jump around and it had trouble shifting (automatic transmission). After driving it I changed out the speed odometer sensor on the transmission and it's been fine ever since. I changed out the sensor because if the cars computer cannot tell how fast the car is traveling then fail safes in place go into effect and the computer will do it's best to keep the cars rpm's down based on the speed indicator and not let it shift or shift properly either. If it's getting false speeds then it will shut down the motor when the speed gets to high and allow it to run as the speeds fall (jumping speed odometer needle). It effects the transmission shift points also. It will either shift erratically or not shift out of say 2nd gear, so that the cars engine can't get damaged based on what signal the speed sensor is sending the computer.

Speedometer and mileage are not turning but rpms gauge works..can it be the cable or did previous owner just unplug something to stop the mileage rollover?

There is no cable on your bike - your speed sensor went bad - it is located in the engine case just behind the front belt pulley.

94 Honda Accord with stopped mile counter

You will need to pull the speedometer out and have the odometer (u call mileage counter) repaired, the little drive gear that comes off the speedometer to operate the odometer has failed or broken.

Digital speedo jumping randomly up to299kmh not reading correct

The speedo drive sender is very common failure on these bikes following any maintenance involving the front wheel removal (like tire replacement)
The speed sensor is located on front axle on the right side of the wheel
The magnetic rotor gets broken because the drive detent is not properly engaged duing re-assembly.
Fortunately the replacement is relatively inexpensive and reasonably easy to replace if you are careful to engage the drive properly when re-installing wheel. Insert the drive into the wheel before bringing wheel up to forks and inserting axle.
