My 2007 VStar 650 when running with clutch lever pulled goes into gear just fine but when I release the clutch it stays engaged I adjusted the cable and even with the cable completely taken free bike still barely moves forward slowly

The leaver at the clutch housing may not be releasing fully or the clutch drive plate may need replacing .

have you checked the basket for groves? if it is groved the plates will stick the release all of a sudden.

Your clutch lever should have a cable connected to it. Trace it from the lever down to the engine and make sure nothing is disconnected or out of place. That big knurled knob next to the lever is the adjusment and locknut for cable tension. Loosen lock nut, srew cable away from lever until you have only 1/4 " of play between lever and the stop. You should feel tension coming back into the lever...If you have a bicycle ,it is the same drill for adjusting your brakes...look and see...it may help you understand the process...any bicycle mech can show you...maybe a neighbor...Good Luck to you friend....Tim

1st and 2nd gear keep jumping out of gear


You may want to make sure the clutch cable is properly adjusted. At the clutch lever on the handlebars, pull back the rubber cover over the end of the cable where it goes into the lever. You'll find a round lock wheel that you tighten to prevent the clutch cable adjustment from moving. Loosen that wheel then you can turn the clutch cable adjustment in or out to adjust the clutch engagement and take up. For those bikes, you want to adjust it so that there is a small amount of slack in the clutch lever. Look at the "crack" where the lever pivots when you pull on it. Adjust the clutch cable by turning that adjustment in or out until you have just barely enough opening to slip a nickel edge into the very outside of that "crack" when you apply very, very light pressure to the clutch lever (just enough pressure to take the slack out of the lever). Tighten the lock wheel back into place and try it now. Also, make sure you are using a good, FIRM foot pressure to engage each gear. If you don't engage firmly enough or the adjustment is out, then it will pop out of gear. You notice it more on the lower gears because the lower gears allow the engine to send more torque thru the clutch, thereby providing more force to make it pop out of gear.

If this doesn't help, then take it to a shop to see if it's simple worn clutch disks (easy to replace on this bike) or if the gears have worn teeth in the transmission.

Hi, Paul_nason the ignition circuit cut-off system comprising of the side stand switch, clutch switch and neutral switch has the following functions:
a. It prevents starting when the transmission is in gear and the side stand is up, but the clutch lever is not pulled.
b. It prevents starting when the transmission is in gear and the clutch lever is pulled, but the side stand is still down.
c. It cuts the running engine when the transmission is in gear and the side stand is moved down.
Periodically check the operation of the ignition circuit cut-off system according to the following tests.
With the engine turned off:
1. Move the side stand down.
2. Make sure that the engine stop switch is set to "RUN"
3. Turn the key to "ON".
4. Shift the transmission into the neutral position.
5. Push the start switch if the engine does not start the neutral switch may be faulty.
With the engine still running:
6. Move the side stand up.
7. Keep the clutch lever pulled.
8. Shift the transmission into gear.
9. Move the side stand down if the engine does not stall you may have a faulty side stand switch.
After the engine has stalled:
10. Move the side stand up.
11. Keep the clutch lever pulled.
12. Push the start switch if the engine does not start you may have a faulty clutch switch.
This check is most reliable if performed with a warmed-up engine.

When you hold the clutch and put the motorcycle in gear it, takes off even with the clutch engaged, what could this be, the bike was laid on its left side before I got it. Its a kawaski 1981 650 csr


The clutch cable needs adjusting as the friction plates and spacers are not releasing correctly when you pull the clutch lever. You should buy a Chiltons or a Clymer manual for your make and model of Motorcycle. In it is the detail on the clutch and how to adjust and rebuild it. They are about 20 bucks. You may check with your local library as they have some issues of the manuals that may cover your particular bike.

2003 yamaha 650 vstar clutch slipping?


This can happen if you used the wrong oil. Is the clutch cable or hydraulic operation. If cable then it may be dry or adjusted too much (needs a little free play at the lever. Not sure of your knowledge so starting with the basics. How many Kms has it done.

Sticky throttle cabel


idle cable out of adjustment and or throttle cable needs adjusting also and they always need to be lubed at 5000 miles adjust throttle cable with wheel striaght forward idle cable to all the way right lock and 2-3mm free play on throttle grip

Wire clutch adjustment


Pulling the lever releases the clutch. Disengageing it so you don't go. Ok, in order to engage the clutch fully, you release the lever and you must have at leas 1/4 inch free play.
If it is not going in gear easily, you probably have too much free play and you are not fully disengageing.. There is the possibility of an internal adjust ment Try the above and let me know how or if that works. Clutch lever pulled by closing your fist releases the clutch for shifting.
