I have a 1994 honda trx300 that will not start with the start button or kick start...only starts when you hold start button and put it in gear. I can not let the start button go or it will kill.

The kickstand switch is either bad or bent out of position. See if you can activate the switch manually. Does the bike run now? If so, the switch is bent out of position. If it still won't run, jumper the wires together until you can replace the switch.

Pull the cover and see if ther is a spring messed up or th teeth are bad ,look close to see how it works, take your time it will come to you.

How is your battery? Sure sounds like it's too weak to turn over the starter.

Assuming that it always started just fine and then the battery is the problem. Many times it slows down gradually--like it turns over slower and slower until the battery finally has no power.

Try charging it.

It is probably the switch on the clutch lever. Disconnect the wires and join them together pull in clutch and try. if it starts switch will need replacing.
