Bike is backfiring through carb.

Bike was running great took short ride and then stopped for a short time. When I tried to restart the bike I heard a loud backfire which came out of the carb. and bike would not start. Now I got bike to start but is still backfiring through carb. What cause this to start so suddenly, and is still causing it to continue?

#1 carb has fuel sitting in it after riding yesterday. Other three are dry.

it sounds like the float is sticking in carb or out of adjustment. you could try tapping the outside of the carb and see if that jars it loose.

How do I stop my bike from constant backfiring?

its running lean. Could be a vent problem with the gas tank. try running with the gas lid slightly open.. if this doesn't work increase the jet size in the carbs.

Backfiring and trouble starting

If you change the exhaust pipes, you have to sync the carbs (if you cant sync them, you have to change the carb jets), usually it is backfiring because the carbs are not in balance.

check for the pinched vacuum line at the carb,, sportys are hard to locate because they are tucked in way behind , it ay have come disconnected, unless there is a load on the motor it will idle fine, add a little load and you get the feeling no fuel is getting through unless you rev it up

If is runs better with full choke, then the bike is lean, check for air leaks at the carb manifold, vacumn cracked hoses, non standard exhausts, perhaps the mufflers have rusted out while sitting

I do not agree your bike should run better then it sounds like it is. Just throwing on a set of pipes and a carb kit is not always all that needs done. I ask about the air filter because it seems your motor is getting to much gas and not enough air. The thing I would do next is to get a higher flow of air on the intake side by going to a high flow air filter. A quick check to see if this will help is to temporarily remove the air filter and test ride the bike. If it runs better without the filter this tells you a high flow filter will help. Your bike may need more work than this to get it right on. The other thing you could have done is get someone to jet in the carb to cut down the fuel flow and get the fuel air ratio right on.

The carbs have to be jetted. If they are the slightest bit out, it will backfire, burn your eyeballs from the fumes and skip and sput like crazy. I found the Dyna-Flow adjustable kits work great, the should have one for your bike, I found one on ebay, because after going to Italy (Ducati) and getting the factory setting jets put back in the bike, it still wouldn't run. I took those carbs off 20 times, the first time took me an hour, I can get them off there now in 10 minuets. Anyway, the adjustable jets work great, it fired right up and ran perfect the first time. Still running great. I am sold. Check them out.

Look its really hard to tell without seeing the bike when it happens, and if im wrong just repost the question, but it sounds like a problem with the vacumn fuel tap. When it stops can you place the fuel tap on pri between on and reserve and see if it makes a difference

a hole in one float would not stop a multi cylnder bike, it would just make that carb flood

probably not the pick up coils as there are two and they wont fail together, and then come good again

Thanks for the extended question, much better than "my bike stopped whats wrong?"

your carbs are dirty. and probably need to be balanced also... bring the bike bto a garage and have them cleaned by a profesional.... also after market pipes don't give your bike the proper back pressure .. that can mess up your carbs timing
