Hmm, since the bike is over 15 years old, I'd say there's a good chance the hose had gone bad.

Replace it. And use top quality fuel line from a professional auto or motorcycle parts store. Bring a piece of the old fuel line with you to make sure you get the right diameter.

In fact, while you're at it, replace all the fuel lines in the whole bike (there's probaby ony 3 or 4) and be done with it. Unless you want real flames on your bike instead of the paint-on kind.
