Question about 2004 Harley Davidson FXST - FXSTI Softail standard

1 Answer

Have 2004 Softail and the battery won't charge itself. The fuel injection light remains on and the battery eventually loses it's charge. It's a new battery and we have had it checked. Help.

Yes, found out where the voltages regulator was, and it was loose which caused the grounded wire to become loose. Tightened everything up and it seems to be working fine now. Thanks.

1999 harley davidson softail standard won't start back fires

You have a wasted spark system and you are getting fuel. Probably you need new spark plugs as even if the old ones look good and might spark out of the engine it appears they will not spark properly under compression pressures and the fuel that remains unburned is ignited when the spark plug fires on the exhaust stroke when there is not pressure and therfore teh backfires.

Battery Light came on - the car shut off briefly (wheel went hard) car came back on light remained on

Hello and welcome to FixYa!

If the battery light is on, I strongly suggest that you have the battery charged. It can be an indication of a weak battery or a faulty alternator. If the battery light still on after charging then the problem will surely be on the alternator itself. If that's the case the alternator should be replaced to resolve the problem.

If the battery won't hold charge even on a new alternator then the problem will be on the battery itself. It surely is in the end of it's service life and replacement will be necessary.

You may try to reset it to by removing the positive battery connector, letting it sit for at least 5mins. then reconnect it again. This will reset the system and can get the battery light off.

Hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa! Have a good one!
