Question about Honda CR 125 R Motorcycles

My 97 cr 125 breaks up in high rpms like it has a rev limiter, it has a brand new carb and the cdi box, the power valve works fine. Could the stator do that?

Hi this may help,it sounds to me like the carb is running way to lean,this may cause the bike to miss at high rpm,also check that the spark plug cap is in good condition as it may be breaking down under high load conditions...cheers

Problems with rpm above 5500


sticky gel coming from CDI box indicates CDI failure. Sticky gel is the insulating material in the module that is melting and leaking out.

Get rid of the stock CDI use the 04 or 05 cdi


Want to really wake up the motor and feel some awsome power ? Get rid of the stock pipe and silencer V-Force reeds up one tooth on the rear sprocket . And toss the CDI Box replace it with an 04 or 05 CDI box then you'll have pleanty of over rev with out the motor poping or going flat up top the FMF Rev pipe with the short silencer is the way to go keep an eye on your jetting till you get it right use race gas Torco 2 gall race gas to 3 gall pump gas Ultra if you have the money have the carb riffled boared and head redone then look out all 250f's the kx 125 will kick ****..............

Sputtering at 5000 rpm


AT 5000 RPM? What is the redline on the XT 600? I had a XT 500 Do not remember my year exactly, I was thinking the redline was close to 5000 RPM and if that is the case you could be possibly hitting a REV limiter or floating the valves.
Have you adjusted or checked the Valve clearance lately along with the Timing chain tensioner to be sure all are within adjustment specs?
The example you gave where it does it in 2nd gear, 3rd gear, I am sure it would do it in any gear as it sounds exactly as if teh engine is running up against a rev limiter or mechanical limits of teh valve train.

Ok i just got a 2004 crf 70. i have taken carb apart twice and cleaned every jet ect... problem is when wide open it cuts out spits and spudders. I have changed settings on throttle cable and swapped out...


Could be that you need to go up one jet size.
When choking a motor, your richening the mixture with more fuel, less air.
So if you must choke it, you must need more fuel.

As for electrical. some bikes have a rev limiter when you hold the throttle wide open You may be reaching the rev limit.
A rev limiter with turn the power on/off the coil superfast, keeping the rmp at a maximum factory setting, and the motor breaks up at full throttle.
Some cdi's have and adjustment that you can set your own rev limit, or you can buy a cdi with no rev limit.

Hi Bobyounggolf, and the usual suspects are:
1. Faulty crankshaft seals, do a visual inspection and pressure test.
2. Power valve failure.
3. Faulty high output coils or CDI
4. Float level too low, restricted main jet, fuel tank not venting.
5. Restricted exhaust port or clogged expansion chamber. I am sorry you can't find the first and best tool you ever bought for your Aprilia but despair not for a mere $10 you can download another one. 2006 KTM 125 sx high revving out problem


Look into your power valve. If it doesn't operate freely, you won't get peak performance. They can get gummed up.

99 cr80 starts but cuts out at the top end of 4th gear. jets and carb clean air filter clean just had a new top end and new packing in exhaust


cuts off or breaks up?? if it breaks up it could be a couple of things bad reeds or electrical like stator or cdi bog ign coil check those

Rev limiter


The C.D.I. box(ignition module) controls how high the R.P.M. of the engine go.depending on what kind of machine that you ride,i have seen some aftermarket C.D.I. boxes that do not have a rev limiter.

Wont rev past 3/8 throttle!! I NEED HELP.


could be. I had a 91 kx 250 that was acting crazy and it turned out to be the stator and cdi box. you can check the stator easly with a omes meter but the cdi box is nearly impossible to check. you pretty much have to buy a new one and try it. also check to see if your power valve is working.
