Question about Harley Davidson XLH 1000 Sportster Motorcycles

When attempting to start the bike, it will only click and the starter doesn't spin and engage. The battery has a full charge. Is the clicking, that I hear, the solenoid engaging the starter though starter not turning over?

You will have to check the starter motor , but have you tried to by pass the soleniod switch?, try to do so by connecting the two points at the solenoid, if the starter truns thn its the solenoid switch which is faulty ..if it doesnt still turn, thn you will have to remove the starter and overhaul it.
Hope this helps!

Kawasaki starter not engaging

Hi, Ricky the starter drive/Bendix/clutch is a mechanical gear driven component that engages the clutch pack ring gear to turn over the engine. It has an internal mechanism that allows the gear to turn in one direction and once the engine starts allows the drive gear to free spin. If gear free spins in both directions then the drive gear has failed, it is not serviceable and needs to be replaced.

Starter engages momentarily then just clicks

Verify all cables are tight and not grounding out due to broken casing.
Check the relay to the starter, it could be failing. Check that the starter is in good working order by passing current directly through it while its removed from the bike. Put a voltometer on the battery and check that its at full capacity ( volts and amps )
Make sure you have a secure ground to the starter and the battery.
Check the start button for continuity.

Good Luck.

Bike would not start.

If you are hearing the clicking sound that means that your starter motor's relay is trying to engage. Probably you don't have enough juice in your battery. Charge your battery very good and give it a try again. If still nothing happens then you must take out the starter motor and have it repaired. That spinning sound also suggests to take a closer look to your starter motor and your starter clutch which is located behind the stator's rotor.

My car is not ingaging to turn over

If it is just clicking, then the battery is too weak. Charge the battery or jumpstart.

If the battery is full charged and when you turn the key, the starter is just clicking again, possibly bad starter or bad battery cable ground. Check your grounds from the battery.

If it is a new starter and it is clicking like it won't engage, then it is not shimmed properly.

If you figure out what is wrong and need further help, please reply to this post with your questions.

Thanks! Oh, please post your engine size, year of car or truck and model. This helps A LOT!!!

All lights come on but bike had low battery so after several tries all the bike does is just click down by the battery.i was told that its not a good idea to jump a bike from a car,but i was stuck and...

The clicking is normal when a battery is low; the starter solenoid doesn't have enough voltage to engage fully so it just clicks. If you blew a fuse, there would be NO power at all to the solenoid or starter. The extremely low state of charge of the battery is sucking all the juice from the car battery and the battery doesn't want to give it up to the starter until it has a sufficient charge. Hooking up to a car is bad because a car battery has 40+ amps. The bike battery only has 4+ amps. You can burn out the windings in the starter and generator, ( or alternator, whichever your bike has ), by overloading with such high amperage. It can also mess up the bike's voltage regulator and rectifier. Just go out and buy a 2amp trickle charger and let the battery charge up overnight. Be sure there is water covering the top of the plates in each battery cell. Also, bike batteries only last for about two years. After that they don't want to take a charge and sometimes a battery will develop an internal short and will drain any charge very quickly. Time for a new battery. PLEASE rate my answer. Thanks.
