Question about 2002 Hyosung GV 250 Aquila

GV 250 appears to seize up when trying to start from cold and won't turn over- later ther same day may turn over then stop, but not so abruptly. When warm will crank over easily and fire right up. Shop can't figure it out...

    it is not an electrical problem- and starter has been replaced, new battery also.
    This is a v-twin- could it be a carburetor problem?

If haven't benn tried...

Initially, determine if it is an electrical issue or a mechanical one. On a cold start (or when having difficulty cranking):

  • bypass the starter relay by jumping the 2 big terminals on the nuts (not on the threaded portion);
  • expect a big spark;
  • the starter motor should spin;
  • if it does, then the starter relay contacts are pitted, burned or corroded and would require replacement;
  • if it will not, then either starter motor problem most likely carbon brushes and/or commutator segments or a mechanical problem;
  • the starter relay could be located by following the big cable from the battery's + terminal;
  • others to check would be +12 on the yellow/red wire on the starter relay when pressing on the start button switch; and
  • 0 volts on the green/red wire from the same relay.  In some versions, the green/red is black/white or is connected to a black/white wire.
If it is suspected to be a mechanical issue, perform a compression test and test cold starting with no sparkplugs.

    Acknowledge the additional information.

    A carb problem would not cause the "...seize up when trying to start from cold...".  Additionally, carb problems would manifest in the sparkplugs as either rich, lean or no fuel. Additionally, a carb could cause either hard starting, rough, hunting, missing, high idle but engine will still crank hot or cold.

The pump has been louder for a couple of weeks and after I stopped it to clean the spa filter, it won't start. Sounds likes it's seized


I had that happen when the spa was off for 10 days. I took the pump and wet end out, and managed to turn the shaft to free it. It has rusted up in place.
6 months later it started the loud noise and started getting worse - the motor bearing at the wet end was seizing up. I replaced motor and wet end just in time.

Kohler engine was running, stopped abruptly, will not turn over, has oil, acts as if engine is frozen.


It may be. They can seize with oil in them. Unhook any belts from the engine and pull the starter free from it. If it still won't turn, it's probably seized.

Use fuel line/injector cleaner this is a common problem. Also try higher octane gas for a tank or 2 and get her ou on the highway and blow he cobwebs outta he fuel system and exhaust

Engine Seized up on a 2006 Pontiac G6


check the oil and coolant levels. if coolant is low pull the sparkplugs and try to turn the engine over if still not turning free remove the serpentine belt and try again, if it turns over ok check the pullyes on the front of the motor to see if they all turn free by hand. a serpentine belt can prevent an engine from turning over if a tensioner, idler, water pump, alternator, or power steering pump is siezed up or starting to seize. being your battery is bad I'm thinking probably the alternator is seized. hope this helps mike.

F&P Smartdrive 058 filling in short bursts then stopping.


I had the same problem today. shephonos 18 had the correct diagnosis. Out of balance micro switch seized. Situated under the main circuit board. Cherry electric Corp 0.1amp 125 volt sptd type switch. jaycar has them for under $4.
I un-seized it with some electrical cleaning spray, fixed itshort term, no worries.
