There is only one tank to fill on your bike, your getting confused by the reserve. The reserve is just on the fuel tap itself. It has three positions, on , off and reserve. In the on position your fuel tap will be able to drink about 90% of your fuel tank and then it wont be able to drain anymore, then you must turn your fuel tap to the reserve position and it will be able to drink rest of your tank approx 10% that is left. So next time you fill up at a petrol station make sure your fuel tap is set to on, then when your bike starts to splutter out of fuel you can turn your fuel tap to reserve and get yourself to the petrol station to fill up, making sure you then turn your tap to on again. If you keep running out on the reserve it can cause debris in your tank to clog your carb up.
hope this helps

The petcock valve is what controls what is called the reserve tank. As mentioned above, there is only one tank. What the valve does is prevents the fuel from draining all the way to the bottom of the tank. When you turn the valve to reserve it allows the fuel to drain all the way tothe bottom.

Refilling radiator

Before you add coolant always make sure that the engine is cool never add coolant to a hot engine.Next remove the radiator cap and fill it to the top with a 50/50 mixture of coolant and water. After you have filled the radiator with the coolant water mixture put the radiator cap back on and then fill the reserve tank to the cold level mark on the side of the bottle

Reserve fuel tank question...

Hi,
Check that fuel valve, pull out that output fuel hose, turn the valve to "reserve", if fuel flows, that means it works( fuel valve ), if no fuel flows, that valve has STUCK valve flow.

Most bike problem is in that fuel valve.

Hope that helps!

Motorcycle, Honda VT1100 Series 1995-2007: Can you refill a dry radiator throught the overflow tank or do you have to remove the gas tank to get to the main fill cap?

Hi allways fill the radiator on closed cooling systems the small expansion tank is just there for a bit of extra capacity if needed if you can get to an upper coolant hose instead fill it from there but ideally at the radiator cap the start the engine and at idle let it warm up until the thermostat opens and the top hose gets hot topping up the whole time it needs it then put the cap back on and fill the expansion tank to the correct level let it cool down and recheck the level when cold top up if needed

Reserve fuel does not work. Rand tank out of gas, switched over to reserve and could not start it. Had to refill gas tank and switch back to normal then it ran. Have to only run by mileage on main tank...

With the age of your machine , you should drain the tank and remove the petcock. If you can take it apart rebuild it. If you have no reserve , either the reserve tube is broken off or the petcock is plugged. It is possible the four hole washer the seals the the lever and diverts the fuel is damaged , worn , or broken. Depending on the over all condition of the petcock replacement of the entire unit may be the best option. At any rate an new fuel petcock would definitely fix this issue. Rebuilding your old petcock is only an option if all the parts you need for it are available.

Hard starting 95 king quad 300

bad gas...caused carb contamination...probably water in the reserve part of the tank (which comes from ethanol separating in the gas...drain the tank (reserve side too)...open the drain screw on the bottom of the carb...re-fill and try again...

How can I get old fuel out of the reserve tank on '82 Honda Magna 750? I hope to not need to remove tank.

Hi,
Just disconnect the main fuel hose from the carb rail. Ensure that you have switched the fuel **** to reserve and this will allow the reserve tank to empty. Not all the fuel is going to come out unless you blow air into the fuel tank filler, this will then get a large percentage of the fuel out. Hope this helps, let me know how you get on.

Positions "Reserveswitch"

The On position is where you run the bike after filling the tank. The Res position is when you are almost out of fuel and the motor stutters you turn the switch it it and that will give you about 1/2 a gallon of gas left in the tank to get to a gas station and refill. Pri is for priming the carbs only. If you have ran out of gas after using the reserve fuel you switch it to this position to fill the float bowls with fuel. Do this for only 30 seconds and switch it back to On position.

Derbi Cross city 125 Fuel Issues

When you have it on main there is a little pipe that sticks higher up into the gas tank and once the gas get down below the top of the pipe it will start to make the engine sputter and you have to flip the lever over to reserve so the rest of the gas can be used. But once you have used up all the gas in the tank you will be empty. So when ever you flip it to reserve you will only have about a 1/2 gallon of gas left to get you to a gas station to get it filled back up. No there is not a separate tank in side the main tank.

I have an e34 93 bmw 525i that works just great, but for some reason when the fuel gets about half full... it gets the trans program error. i fill it up and restart the car, and it seems to work fine...

I think the gas tank requires a thorough clean-up including the outlet for the mains & reserve lines. My guess is that the main line is not completely clear thus after the gas level falls to half tank the obstruction is enough to trigger the fail indicator. So it seems the first thing to do is get your gas tank thoroughly cleaned............sodeep
