Question about 2003 Suzuki AN 650 Burgman

1 Answer

Transmission blew on my Burgman 650

I have owned 2 Suzuki Burgman motorcycles and both of them blew their transmissions after about 30,000 freeway miles...and, on both, I did all the Suzuki required maintenance.
Is this typical?
Can I get a salvaged transmission?
How expensive should this be?
Should I buy another one or is this issue here self evident?

Where is a good place to get salvaged transmissions for a Burgman? What should I expect to pay?

A good friend of mine had 2 also. Same exact thing happened to both..
It "might " be a good idea to get a "savaged" trani IF it has low miles..
To answer your qusetion - I think it is self evident that these tranies are good for roughly 30-k miles - infortunaltely..

I do not know the pricing..

Here is a site for parts

Here is a site for used parts with warrenty

Other that that - Google search for salvage parts and you should be able to find several places across the nation that will ship parts - sometimes free shipping..

    Good luck..

Suzuki 650 Burgman. I changed oil transmission now it barely takes off and won't go into 6th gear. It is flashing f1 code. I need some advice on what is going on.

Hi, Mike your ECM has generated a fault code for this scenario you will need your service/owners manual if you can't find the first and best tool you ever bought for your Suzuki, despair not, for a mere $0 you can download another one. For more information about your issue and valuable "FREE" downloads that you will need please click on the links below. Good luck and have a nice day.

My burgman 650 start but not my transmission

Hi Sergio, for this situation I would call my local dealer or reputable shop's service department and inquire about any possible quick fix. If necessary transport your vehicle to the dealer or shop and have a professional technician take it for a test drive, if possible, and give you a written estimate of repairs and answer any specific questions you may have about your issue. Good luck and have a nice day.

Hi, need to know how to check transmission fluid and gear oit?

I could write down the chapter in the service manual for you and soon you would be lost, or, you could go to YouTube and search "Burgman 650 Transmission Oil Change" and see how the pros do it. I reccomend adding it to your favorites list as it is not done very often and a refresher is good for the second time you do it. Change the oil and filter plus the rear drive oil while you have the covers off.

Where can I find an engine and transmission for a 2003 burgman 650.

Google "suzuki burgman salvage" the very first listing looks extremely promising.

Two Suzuki Burgmans Transmission failures...

A trained Suzuki technician should know how to dismantle the transmission. If he has to pull things a part to see what is wrong you might need to pay for this to get a proper quote. If the Technician is good he will leave it apart in case you want to go ahead, the original quote should then be absorbed into the bill if you do go ahead. If the Suzuki Tech is not trained then go somewhere else to find one that is. Suzuki Burgman is a tough little scooter, I know of one that has done a ride around the world and had only a battery and tyre problem, it had 20,000Km's on it before he left on the trip.

Im changing the transmission oil 10w40. The manuel says to put in about 13ounces but the dealer told me to fill until it overflows out the filler hole. I've put in almost a full liter(canadian) and its...

The transmission fill hole is a 10 mm bolt that sticks out about 2" the run out of the hole is a 14mm bolt an 1"1/2 below that. it looks like a bolt to hold on the clutch cover.
I had the same problem till I read the service manual.

Need used suzuki burgman 650 engine

google "burgman dealers" and you can find a dealer and even corporate HQ. Also google "mororcycle salvage burgman" Site numbers 7 & 8 look promising. Also, "mororcycle salvage burgman 650". Between the dealers and the salvage yard you should be able to find another engine.

A “very helpful” rating for this answer? Thanks!

My 650 Burgman does not free wheel when I let off

You have a CVT transmission. If you came from a motorcycle background you'll have to re-learn throttle control on a scooter, they slow down a lot faster than a manual transmission motorcycle. Just don't chop your throttle when slowing down and you'll find more control....Good Luck
