Question about 2003 Suzuki RM 125

1 Answer

I have a 01 rm 125. Just overhauled the engine, but when I rode the bike it does not want to go into second gear from first. It stops in neutral and does not want to go into second. Once it is in second the remaining shifts are easy to third, fourth, fifth, etc.. any ideas?

If all other gears shif fine, only thing possibly wrong is the shifting mechanism, like bent fork, washer on shaft in the wrong spot etc most likely during overhaul, something was not put back in the right place

the fan is supposed to come on when the engine gets too hot - so let it go - no need to stop the engine - usually it will go off - once you get moving at a decent speed

Are you using the correct 10W40W wet clutch motorcycle oil? It has special friction modifiers in it for this clutch drag issue.

I need the recovery sequence for my Aprilia rs 125. the bike fell down while the engine was running.., now it does not want to start when the bike is in gear. why? i think it has to be the safety...

You are quite correct, the starter solenoid will not connect unless the bike is in neutral.
Paddle the gears until it is in neutral, make sure the neutral light is on and try again.
Hope this helps.

Bike keeps jumping out of gear

Either your gear selector adjustment needs to be re-set (right hand side of motor inside the clutch cover, there is a hook and claw mechinism that can be fine-tuned) or the gear selector drum stopper is badly worn and will need replacing (experts only, as this requires a total engine strip down).

My rm 80 1stand 2nd gear locks wheels

If your rear wheel is locked up in first and second gear with the engine running, this is not a good sign. Have you ever ran the bike without oil in the transmission? Every time I've seen this, the chain was thrown off the bike and it busted the cases. The oil leaked out of the cases and the transmission locks up. Generally, it locks in fifth gear but it could lock up in any or no gear.

Your problem sounds like something is wrong with the low gear-second gear "clutch gear". The clutch gear is gear that slides sideways on one of the transmission shafts to engage the proper gears. If the bike will roll when in neutral, these may be the only gears affected. If the bike will not roll when in neutral, your problem may be in countershaft. Either way, the transmission could be damaged.

Now, if you're talking about the rear wheel locking up if you try to push start the bike, this is because in low and second gear, there isn't enough mechanical advantage in the transmission to overcome the engine compression. Remember, you transferring torque through the transmission backwards when you try to push start the bike. Try starting the bike using third or fourth gear instead. Standing on the pegs and dropping onto the seat when you release the clutch helps.
