Gas pouring out the bottom of carb on a 2001 yamaha riva 125

I just picked up a 2001 yamaha riva 125. It has just 20 miles on it. As you can imagine it has been sitting for quite a while. I have replaced the battery, spark plug, and engine oil. When I went to start it for the first time it did not turn over. On the second try it did start but died almost immediately. After trying a third and forth time I noticed gas was leaking onto the garage floor. After further inspection I observed gas coming from the bottom of the carb whenever I pressed on the starter. What is happening? Any help would be appreciated. (by the way I am a very inexperienced do-it-yourselfer)

you may have bad piston rings or the float level in carb is letting fuel to pour into cylinder and it is seeping down do a compression test if compression is good remove carb and clean it and check the float level there are videos on you tube for this good luck

2001 yamaha breeze wont stay running

i had the same issue. it's gonna be a blockage in one of the vent tubes to the carb. check the line to the left of the carb that runs next to the gas tank. if thats fine then check the gas cap line. then if thats all good then check the line that runs below the carb. these are all vent tubes and allow the carb. to refill with fuel

Gas pouring out bottom of carb won't ping out

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Gas pouring out is an overflow. The only reason there would be an overflow is when the float activated valve does not close the fuel inlet port. This could be caused by dirt, sand, rust or any foreign material. Fix would call for a carb pulldown, soaking non-rubber parts, and cleaning.

Good luck and thank you for asking FixYa.

87 yz125. gas pours straight through carb

change the needle and make sure its jetting right, check the floats if it is operational. '90 to '95 carbs are compatible, so if you are planning a replacement, you may use those

Gas leaking from bottom of carb on 90cc ATV

yes there is a tube that goes on it. It hangs straight down about an inch or two past the botom of the 4 wheelers frame. It is for a overflow of gas, which is usally caused by either dirt in the carb holding the float to high and allowing the gas to just run straight thru and out the bottom of the carb or a bent or maladjusted float setting. But since you said it just started, i would suggest this. I have fixed many and many bikes by simply removing the carb bottom and cleaning it with carb cleaner. It onlty takes a small piece of dirt between the float needle to keep the needle from making a good seat in the carb. Clean it well Please be carefull and keep the carb well away from your face as to not get any blowback of cleaner in your eyes(IT BURNS) This should fix your probblem

Strange thigs about YAMAHA TW 125

Hi
I have been working on my carb today, the pipe from the bottom of the carb should just run down by the bottom of the swinging arm, there should be another pipe from the pipe on the left side of the carb just above the fuel intake which also runs down to the swinging arm and connect to nothing.
Cheers

Gas leak from bottom of carburator

The line you are talking about is the carb overflow line. It does not connect to anything. It sounds like the carb needle valve or carb float is sticking in the open position allowing fuel to constantly flow into the carb. You should take the carb apart and examine the two parts I mentioned.
