The shims dont wear, the valves do. You need to measure, and see what you need and order the new size shim, or get a "kit" with various shim sizes, as these are available aftermarket.

Valve Clearances inlet and exhaust

j24b engine D.O.H.C.
U.S.A?
open hood , look up. see white sticker, see clearances.?
off online F.S.M
Valve clearance specification when cold :
59 to 77deg F or 15 to 25deg C (engine temps)
Intake: 0.0063 to 0.0094 inch (0.16 to 0.24mm)
Exhaust: 0.0123to 0.0153 inch (0.31to 0.39mm)
you must remove the bucket, tappet , to change lash.
MIKE IT (that means a micrometer)
then buy shims or new buckets to fit. (generic answer)
the book says buy correct tappet after measuring, yours.
and it's out of range, and doing the math first.

that is it.

Tappets settings SR20DE

nissan or a datsun its the same thing and what a car these were ,well not sure and its not showing in my alldata book but 12 inlet and 14 exhaust will suffice although some older datsuns wew the same inlet and exhaust as i remember from the first imports under the name datsun and my uncle used to set light to them and the motor bikes in the 60s ,he was a japanese prisoner of war and when caught he was let off by the judge as he was a prisoner as well .Anyway this is not helping you so make sure that you take the rocker shaft off and check for wear under the tappet fingers if excessive then take to a machine shop and have them ground and then re-heat treated to about 95rockwell C .Also check for play on the shafts as if no spares available you may have to have them bored and shimmed .

Schims are rattling; can I reset them and how?

HI, FIRSTLY ARE YOU SURE IT IS THE SHIMS AND NOT THE CAM CHAIN? THE SHIMS ON YOUR BIKE CANOT BE RESET AS SUCH, HOWEVER YOU CAN REDUCE THE RATTLING BY CHANGING THE SHIMS, THE PROCEDURE IS TO MEASURE ALL THE INLET AND ALL THE EXHAUST VALVE CLEARANCES, MAKNING A NOTE OF EACH GAP BETWEEN SHIM AND CAMSHAFT LOBE WHEN IN THE CORRECT POSITION FOR EACH VALVE, AFTER YOU HAVE MEASURED THE GAP YOU THEN NEED TO REMOVE THE SHIMS FROM THE VALVES THAT ARE OUT OF SPEC, 1 AT A TIME, SOME SHIMS HAVE THE MEASURMENT STAMPED ON THEM, OTHERS YOU HAVE TO MEASURE WITH A MICROMITER OR VERNIER CALIPERS, YOU MAY THEN CHANGE THE SHIM AS REQUIRED DEPENDING ON WHETHER YOU NEED TO REDUCE THE GAP OR INCREASE THE GAP. IT MAY BE THAT A SHIM REMOVED FROM 1 VALVE WILL BE A GOOD REPLACMENT FOR ANOTHER VALVE, GET YOURSELF A HAYNS MANUAL IT SHOWS YOU THE FULL PROCEDURE INC A CHART TELING YOU WHAT SHIM TO FIT FOR ACTUAL CLEARENCE,

I am owning an palio1.9d now i am facing tappet noise and i my self adjusted the tappet by replacing the shims and i kept the clearane to inlet-14 and exhaust-16 but still theres slightly sound what shall...

I know from experience with Mercedes diesels that correct tappet clearance is critical. As the engine wears you may need to accommodate for wear. I would adjust again closing the gap but, very very little. I would be careful not to overdo. I may be wasting my words but, make sure you are on the heal of the cam when making the measurement. Let me know if you need anything else.

I need to know the valve adjustment procedure and

Valve clearance ideal setting is 0.10mm however as ideal replacement size shims are not always available use tolerance 0.05 to 0.2mm inlet and exhaust Procedure remove tappet cover rotate motor to tdc compression (inlet valve lobe pointing to rear wheel and exaust lobe to front wheel) measure clearance if no clearance depress cam bucket hold down by wedging a screwdriver or suitable tool (allen key) between cam bucket and cam remove shim measure with micrometer an relace with a shim 0.15 thinner depress valve remove wedge and measure clearance (if any) repeat procedure 4 each cylinder if clearance to large replace shim with a thicker one till clearance is in spec

Whats the cam shims settings and valve clearance settings please for 1990 gsf 400 import

Intake: .004-.006"
Exhaust: .006-.008"

There are no specific settings for shims. Each valve is a little different and the different thickness shims are used to get the clearance in spec. This also changes as the engine wears. If you need any, the shims will have to be purchased at the dealer.

Need valve clearences for all valves...

0.0039-0.0059 inch 0.11-0.15mm inlet cold
0.0079-0.0098inch 0.2-0.25mm exhaust

measure and record clearances before removing cams, then will need to get exchange shims if clearances need adjustment, the shims have the sizes etched on them , do not mix them up
