Changed plugs and coil pack running rough on tickover and starting off. When at a certain speed car running fine

I would check all the wires going to the coil packs. Sounds like a plug is only firing when it wants to. But once your up and going you do not need all pistons to keep you going faster and faster.

What will cause my 1996 buick century to misfire.

The list is long. Bad spark plug/s, wire/s, distributor cap, camshaft, valve/s, piston/s, gasket/s, vacuum leak, fuel injector/s among other things. Some diagnosis will be needed.

2004 Chevrolet Malibu mix v6 LS engine turns but will not start

Check for fuel, spark, and then compression. Fuel problems can be pump, pump relay, fuse, filter, line, etc. Spark problems can be distributor module, distributor, coil packs, power to distributor or coil packs, plug wires. Compression problems would be piston rings, piston walls, piston rods.

1998 pontiac firebird coil pack, will coil make it miss on 1 cylinder, 3800 engine, misfiring, have changed plugs and wires

yes, it can happen. check for spark from the number one coil using spark plug wire and hold it near a grounded point. it should be a consistent spark with engine running. compare to different coil wire for verification. those coil packs are partially replace able because each coil fires two plugs. replace the no.1 portion with a new one from parts store. 28.00

We know the firing order for plugs and wires but we need to know where #1 2 3 etc start from

Your number one cylinder is always the front most piston, usually left front of the engine. If you follow the wire back to the coil pack or dist, whatever you have, you will have the number one, then you know the order, just go by it, and it should give you the rest of the pistons. A V6 sometimes goes, 123 on the left, and 456 on the right, but not always. They can cross over, left, right, etc. The 4 cylinder overhead cam engine is 1234, the firing order is cast into the engine block on all engines. I don't know what engine you have , but hope this helps.

Cylinder number 3 misfire

It can be a bad spark plug, plug wire, burnt valve, blown head gasket, or worn piston rings. Replace the spark plugs and plug wires and see if the miss goes away. If it does not then have a compression test run on the engine. In addition if you are loosing coolant with no apparent leak, and you see white smoke coming from the exhaust you may have a blown head gasket which will cause a miss.

Where are spark plugs located

follow the sparkplug wires / there the big 8mm wires coming out of box looking coil packs . need engine size to know exactly where the plugs are / try the top or front and back ,good place to start. 4 cylinder / 6 cylinder each cylinder needs a wire going to it imagine where the pistons would be and the plugs sit on top the pistons .

2001 pontiac cowl pack not fireing.

Here is a diagram of the firing order for you 3800 engine. Cylinders 1 and 4 are misfiring because the operate under the same "Coil Pack" and the coil pack has unfortunately gone bad. O'Reilly sells them for between $30-50 depending on the amount of warranty coverage you want. To replace, simply unscrew the screws that hold the coil pack in place. WAIT before unplugging the plug wires. Place the old coil pack and new coil pack next to each other, unplug one plug wire, then plug it to that same port on the new coil pack. then do the same for the other plug wire. Then screw your new coil pack in place, and start you car. should run fine!

How do i plug in the spark plug coils? what order?

If it's the four cyl., the first coil pack bolts over the #2 spark plug. The #2 coil pack wire plugs into #3 spark plug. The number two coil pack bolts directly over the number four spark plug, and the #2 coil pack wire plugs into the #4 plug. The firing order is 1-4-2-3.
