Question about Harley Davidson VRSCD Night Rod Motorcycles

1 Answer

We have a 2006 night rod with 6,500 miles on it. The bike when new had a vance n hines fuel pack installed, wide tire kit and the label for fuel pack settings indicates it was done for d&d pipes. The current pipes were re-installed by a previous owner and appear stock. Our mechanic thinks it does not have any where near the power of other v-rods he has riden. I have removed the fuel pack until we can verify what pipes are on it per vance recommendations. As far as the power question any thoughts on checking compression or valve adjustments? Thx Todd

Im sure the valves and compression are good. as for changing pipes, the computer will adjust for it to a certain point. bringing everything back to stock will probably increase your power. if you want to keep the pipes and fuel pack, i would buy an after market ignition module as well

Hi, Feny50 I would really love to help you with your bike question but due to the magnitude of yesterday's solar flare the batteries in my crystal ball are dead and my mental telepathy headset circuitry was melted which forces me to make an educated guess, I would install the new exhaust and take for a ride there is a possibility that it will run great if not then get another remap or readjust the fuel tuner you reference too or purchase a fuel tuner and adjust it yourself.

2006 Honda Shadow aero 750 Problems starting

If the problem start after putting Vance & Hines Pipes, then try to sync the carbs, if not possible (meaning turning the sync screw all the way and cant sync them), reJet the carbs with 1up, slow and main Jet.

I put a Vance and Hines exhaust on my xl1200x about 2k miles ago and did not install a fuelpak. What problems will this create and will I have to do a rebuild? What would I need to rebuild?

Adding an exhaust system should not adversly affect your motor just the performance, rebuild? nooo, if this system was made to run its best with the fuelpack add the fuel pack.

Low rpm loss of power with aftermarket vance and hines pipes

If you have carburetors you need to install a jet kit. If you have a fuel injected bike you need to add a Power Commander and program it for the changes you have made to the intake side of the engine. Make sure you installed all new exhaust gaskets or you will have lots of popping and back firing.

Hard to start when hot

It sounds like you fuel map is wrong. Motorcycle are extremely sensitive to any changes you make in the intake or exhaust system. Sounds like you need to take your bike and have it put on a dyno to figure out the new map for your fuel. I'm not familiar with the the Vance & Hines fuel pack. Sorry I couldn't be of more help, Good Luck, Steve

2007 night train vance & hines pipes & fuel pack w/K&N air filter. Just discovered oil on top of rear cylinder

It probably isn't oil, it's more than likely fuel mixed with carbon due to running too rich. check your settings on the fuel pak.

Vance and Hines

Whenever I have a question about an aftermarket part - I contact the manufacturer, they are very helpful, but to answer your question, In general, if u get the correct part for your model bike, it should mount the same as the OEM part you;re replacing
